After posting the last page, it kind of hit me how little you all know. I know so much about the universe, the story, who dies, who lives, etc, that what might be such big twists to you are just parts of the story to me. I honestly didn't expect to surprise you all so much with the surface but I'm glad the story keeps staying interesting!
This is nearing the end of the Iyress section, by the way. We'll finally get to see our lovely Ruskaer and Tygressa duo again soon. <3 I miss drawing them. It's been 2/3 of a year!
Anyway, a big reveal! These guys have only existed in concept art for a year and I'm glad to finally break my hands drawing them! (Im going to die the next few pages)

The fins are actually removed, but his wings are just tucked in (though in a very uncomfortable and sort of mangled fashion)

They're under his armor, it's just hard to see that from this angle. Hence he 'gave up his flight'

Seems needlessly extravagated. Couldn't They have cut a symbol in their heads or paws or something? Cutting of frills seems overdone

I know, but a cut in the fin is not lethal in combat. Their battle performance wouldn't be lowered much from having fins, not more than a full body armor does, anyway. Couldn't they just go the Faith of the Seven Militanth and get fancy symbold in their foreheads

Of course not, but the fins would either:
a) Force a chink in the armor by forcing there to be a split where the fins would emerge from the back
b) Provide a slit in the armor where fire could easily get through and burn the body beneath from within the armor
It's less a 'serve the empire' mark and more of a fix for a chink in the armor that's supposed to be impenetrable.

It's a bit hard to give them any sort of expression since you can't see their mouth, but I can see where you're coming from. he's supposed to have a furrowed brow and glare, though
