A side door into a beautiful fairytale castle. I had a shot of it I wanted to submit but it looked too much like a postcard.Location: Burg Haid

Ahh, that's so cool! I'd love to visit such an area and just see entrance ways to castles in the middle of a forest!

Yes! I was thinking the same thing! The doorway into The Secret Garden! It's got me curious...is it really the side door into a castle? If not, what is it the entrance to? It inspires the imagination and I agree with the artist...it would definitely make a nice postcard! Lovely!

Oh yes, I can assure you it's a marvellous place - a smallish, very romantic castle with round towers, walled gardens and a massive gated entrance all tucked nicely away in a dense forest ...and it also has its own lake complete with swans.

There are dozens of abandoned villages and castles round here. I'm totally fascinated by them. In fact the very village in which I live, had once been reduced to a single inhabitant. It was later resettled by Huguenots (lots of old French names remain). It's certainly interesting following the history all the way into those old remains.

definately. i just recently read about a town that was found hundreds of years after it was finally 'abandoned'...only to find? that another town was below THOSE ruins.

Welcome, m'Lady! ...and I'm sure you'd like the main entrance even more. It leads into a mini fairy tale castle.

Well, I'd love to have made some ...but the 'little castle' is a private residence smack in the middle of their huge privately owned forests. Been there a couple of times, so far without any luck of striking up contact. It's kind of a pity in a way ...there's a beautiful pond, a farm and they even had their own railway station at one time. Picture book stuff! And so peaceful... mmm! (just waiting for you to enjoy...

Well that is a pity. Such a shame to keep such a lovely place like that hidden and not share
Sounds like a dreamy place to live

This is so lovely, I love how it seems almost hidden in everything... like a secret hidaway. Very lovely, I'm such a sucker for the fantasy/fairytale places.

My mother's great aunts lived out in the country and they had a playhouse built in the woods on their property.it was so much fun. i'll have to look up on the map where Burg Haid is. My brother is getting married to an Austrian who's house is on the edge of the Black Forest. Do you have anything from around there? It has always sounded so mysterious-but beautiful.
