Description
Hehe, this has been very fun to do...a nice way to draw and yet still have fun doing so.Anyways, this character isn't mine. I designed her, but she belongs to . I had drawn her a while ago (remember the picture with the bleeding mare? ) which won in a contest, so she is now Chrisabells. Chris asked for a ref, so though it's been a long time since the contest, I finally drew one!
Enjoy!

Wow, she's fantastic (though a piggeh would've helped)! No, really, the reference, the pose, the mushroom - the frog - all of it! Just delicious!
I also love how you vandalized her name, with swirliness. O_O

A piggeh would not have helped! It probably would have eaten the flowers and scared away the fr0g and butterfly!
But thank you! Just don't eat it xD
Hehe, yes, I am a vandalizer of all sorts of things

A piggeh would have first picked the flowers for the pretty mare (piggehs are unaware of their species), and when she looked at the piggeh like it was crazy - THEN it would have eaten them...and the mushroom!
Aw, I can't eat it? But it's GREEN!
Do you vandalize other references? Like meself?

I know, me too! I'll search around a bit on Google, I wonder why I haven't seen that...
We have a old Palomino mare at the barn. Wjen we first got her in March, she had been living out at pasture for a long time, so her coat was very light and dull. She looked like a cremello! But then, when she started getting some better food and shedding out into her summer coat, she slowly turned gold. Halfway into April she looked like a Palomino roan.

Yeth. I called her "Snap Crackle Pop" because her hocks popped.
[link] I found some buckskin roans, but they look like grullas.

[link] Here is a good Palomino roan. Most of them look like weirdalated Perlinos.

She's pretty! How did you get so many different colors to stand out all at once without being too excessive? It is simply layering?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Radiantthunder In reply to Queen-of-Randomness [2008-08-12 20:22:59 +0000 UTC]
Thanks
Hah, um well, I put it all on one layer (for the coloring at least). I just put one collor on at a time, and have areas of focus where one color will stand out more. I hope that makes sense...

No, I understand. Do you use the dodge and/or burn tools at all? You don't use a tablet, correct?

Radiantthunder In reply to Queen-of-Randomness [2008-08-12 20:47:43 +0000 UTC]
Thats good
No, I don't use those tools at all - just the paint brush at 23% opacity on hard round.
I do use a tablet

Queen-of-Randomness In reply to Radiantthunder [2008-08-12 21:01:09 +0000 UTC]
Wow... amazing. So, as far as layering goes, do you start off with a solid base color? Sorry for all of the questions!
And how is working with a tablet? Is it difficult to master drawing with? I'm strongly thinking of investing in one, considering all of the other graphic design I do, besides DA stuff.

Radiantthunder In reply to Queen-of-Randomness [2008-08-12 21:06:49 +0000 UTC]
No, I never start with a solid base color ...I used to, but I like my style better without doing that. I just choose what owuld have been the base color and do a light almost transparent coat on a section. Then I get a ton of colors and start layering them on top, one after the other until I get a look I like Thats fine - I don't mind them xD
I love working with a tablet. I used to have just MS paint and a mouse, and the jump to adobe and tablets is amazing. I can have so much more detail and control. I strongly suggest getting one!
