Description
EDIT: Yeeeeeessss... Yet another update. O_o Now you guys know I really am a gemini, one who undergoes a split personality problem from time to time. O_____OIn any account, I reintroduced the bright colors I initially had. It flows better with the rest of the series. That was one of my major concerns about my BOS series. Each image has to stand its own ground, but also feel like it's part of a larger picture.
There was also another thing I wanted to do in these revisions and that was introduce organic textures. I really wanted the figure to blend and flow into the background, creating an unclear, blurry vision that implied motion and liveliness, while also implying this inability to tell forground from background, as if the figure was lost and integrated with the environment. Granted, when I started this series, it was about applying a Matisse-like, abstract technique, one in which I played color against color. And it was also about patterns that evoked the same spiritual reaction you would see in an Islamic architecture. But this series has always demanded organic flow too. Pure geometric shapes can only do so much. So yeah, I wanted to include something organic, which would also act as a visual cue that tied each BOS image to each other.
(from previous post)
No mas! No maaaaaaaas!
I'll definitely come back to this and add in more detail but, for now, I'm turning this over due to time constraints. It kinda sucks since I really wanted this to be good enough to garner some attention here in DA. I know I still need work in my craft, but I'm getting better. Even more, this work is all my original stuff, not something fanart related.
Speaking of original, this is Seth, for those who don't know. Seth is my original character. Seth is bigendered too, which is cool because my Birth of Space series deals with the relationship between man/woman with regards to creation. In this image, Seth is pregnant and is expecting to give birth to the Universe any time soon.

Hm I've never pictured how it must be like to give birth to a universe. This explains at least alot of why we're in this world lol
Your picture is glamourus and mystic, and the robot-like wires makes it all even slightly creepy. I like how you use this weird combinations it makes it all a bit surreal but still so realistic as the girl uses makeup and fashion.

I imagine giving birth to the universe must be painful. But hey, somebody's gotta do it.
i love mixing beauty and technology together. i call it 'techno-organic' work. Highly inspired by the wonderful HR Giger.

hah, thank you again for the comment! And yeah, the fingernails are long. They're my favorite thing to do. Plus, Seth is a werewolf, so her nails are pretty long and lethal looking. O_O

I... just went on a faving spree. I really do love this series, all the details and the workload it must have taken have to be huge.
I wish I had something remotely intelligent to say, but I should probably mention that pregnancies and birth scares the living daylight outta me. Seriously, if I accidentally happen upon a documentary about it the tv goes off in an instant and I'm located shivering under the nearest blanket.
...so right now I'm going scary- awesome- scary...

This one is amazing as well... I admire when people can put so much time and effort into a piece Especially with all of those details and using a mouse... that is incredible
And even without that aspect and perhaps even the concept, this picture still is quite beautiful

to me it doesn't matter about detail to me its about what your tryning to bring out of you mind and putting it to paper or comupter! as long as you get that image out of your mind I feel that ,thats enough detail within it's self !!
It's hard enough just trying to bring the image out just right !!

This piece, the culmination of the other two I have to say is the best by far out of the three. There is a quiet anticipation here as the gestation ends and the birth itself begins.
Using a bigendered being I feel is very clever because it shows that everyone has the capacity of male and female within themselves.
Also, you may not feel your art is perfect, but I feel it is breath taking and much better than I could do now.

RadiusZero In reply to Vaya-Kahvi [2008-12-13 06:44:58 +0000 UTC]
Ha, yes, i feel the same way. This is my favorite of the series. The first was a warm up, the second was a good refresher, and this one, well, it's what I want my series to be. And if you noticed, Seth, herself, has taken a direct part in the creation process. In the previous ones, as both male and female, Seth was simply an observer, observing the Creator give birth to space. Here, Seth is the creator herself. So yeah, this image is a lot more powerful and quieter than the previous two.
Definitely. There's a piece in each of us that's both man/woman. It keeps us linked to the "other". Granted, our gender enables us to take part of the creation process in our own unique way. Still, it's essential we don't entirely limit ourselves to our gender roles. Lest we remain partial, incomplete beings.

This is so beautiful. I love how it's cold and warm, and harsh and soft, and so intricate. I also really like the double helices on the arm. 'Birth of space seed creator' is stunning too. It feels almost sad but there's so much life in it. I'm rarely touched like this by digital art.

Wow! I'm just very floored by what you said. You know, that's the type of reaction I was shooting for from this series. I really wanted to take pop art like this into a new level that went beyond form. I wanted to have a powerful theme and mood that evoked an an emotional reaction. I'm very glad you came away with something after seeing this piece, as well as the seed creator.

Quite reminds me of Alex Grey's work. Very nice, and love the concept of the dual-gendered character being the one to give birth to the universe.
Not to mention the detail! If I had that kind of patience..

Man, I'm so blushing from this comment. It's exciting to hear that you love the duel-gender part of this series. you see, I had undergone research over the summer with regards to gender and metaphysical power. I got hooked into that realm and decided to use a character like Seth to explore how male/female contribute to the universe. It's really exciting for me to show this work and have it be appreciated it for, not only the illustration itself, but the theme as well. Many thanks for stopping by for the comment.
