EDIT: Yeeeeeessss... Yet another update. O_o Now you guys know I really am a gemini, one who undergoes a split personality problem from time to time. O_____OIn any account, I reintroduced the bright colors I initially had. It flows better with the rest of the series. That was one of my major concerns about my BOS series. Each image has to stand its own ground, but also feel like it's part of a larger picture.
There was also another thing I wanted to do in these revisions and that was introduce organic textures. I really wanted the figure to blend and flow into the background, creating an unclear, blurry vision that implied motion and liveliness, while also implying this inability to tell forground from background, as if the figure was lost and integrated with the environment. Granted, when I started this series, it was about applying a Matisse-like, abstract technique, one in which I played color against color. And it was also about patterns that evoked the same spiritual reaction you would see in an Islamic architecture. But this series has always demanded organic flow too. Pure geometric shapes can only do so much. So yeah, I wanted to include something organic, which would also act as a visual cue that tied each BOS image to each other.
(from previous post)
No mas! No maaaaaaaas!
I'll definitely come back to this and add in more detail but, for now, I'm turning this over due to time constraints. It kinda sucks since I really wanted this to be good enough to garner some attention here in DA. I know I still need work in my craft, but I'm getting better. Even more, this work is all my original stuff, not something fanart related.
Speaking of original, this is Seth, for those who don't know. Seth is my original character. Seth is bigendered too, which is cool because my Birth of Space series deals with the relationship between man/woman with regards to creation. In this image, Seth is pregnant and is expecting to give birth to the Universe any time soon.

:hugs: Thank you! I'm so thrilled you love the textured parts of my drawings. I think it gives it that human touch. And colors have always been a favorite of mine so I'm equally appreciative of your comment on them (offers roses and tons of pizza boxes to livyer)

You did this with a mouse?!
As much as I wish for more, go do your school work (like I should talk...). Flunking school sucks.
I'm going to hold off on faving this until you get it finished and I can see the larger size, but I definitely will when you do. I really like how... physical Seth feels here. I grew up around people where pregnancy and birth was a common event and wasn't any sort of secret (how they got that way, yes, that was a secret, but not the being pregnant bit), so I've got a strong sense of pregnancy being a very physical thing, a very animal thing. You've captured that very well here. I particularly like how big her thighs are
This entire series has a very good "artsy" feel to it, without loosing accessibility. I can envision it at a gallery very easily.

Aw, thank you! It's great hearing that the concept is good. I really try to come up with interesting ideas in this series. Many thanks for the comment.

Thank you! I was actually looking forward to your comment on this.
I'm so glad you dig it. But man, this took forEVER. But I think it was worth it.
At least to me. I don't know how Seth feels though. She's still going nuts because she got knocked up.
Seth:
>_> Seth is totally hopeless sometimes

You're welcome. That means a great deal to me. I was feeling very depressed all day and then I saw Seth and went SQUEEE! Yes I do squee though it mostly over Seth, Dante, and my own characters. I can tell. It really paid off because everything looks beautiful. And the lighting is amazing. I also love the galaxy growing inside of her.
Walter: It's okay, Seth. I still love you.
At least he isn't as hopeless as Damien. That man is a walking pick up line machine.

Aw, you were feeling depressed? Send me a pm any time you need to get something off your chest. Seriously, I'm there for you. Me and Seth will do what we can to bring a smile back to your face
Seth:
Well, like I said, I always look forward to your replies. I'm always thrilled to hear what you gotta say about Seth. I'm totally the same with Walter. Really, that OC of yours is incredible. Not to mention, the overal story he's placed in. If I ever get an online comic site done, I'm definitely asking you to join in and post your series in it. I love it that much, which is a rare treat since I'm always seeing the same-o kinda stuff online.
Ha, yeah, that's one of my favorite parts of the pic. I'll probably make a detail shot of it since I liked how it came out.
Seth: Really?
hahaha, Damien, Walter, and Seth need to have dinner together someday so they can talk about their issues.
Seth: How about a threesome instead?
>_> Um, Seth, that's exactly how you got knocked up and pregnant in the first place.

I feel better now. I sometimes get very depressed but then I usually snap out of it after a day or two. Faster when I see Seth.
Thank you. I always look forward to yours as well. I have had this story in me for a long time and I am very happy to find someone who loves it as much as I do. Really?! That would make me so happy. I try very hard to avoid cliches (ie Vampires being from France thing or being emo.) and I am happy that you can see that. I am very proud of the twist that Chris' story starts out with. Not many revenge stories deal with the aftermath of the revenge seekers actions, particularly when said actions draw out a really huge shark when you're just a barracuda. I'll shut up now or I'll spoil it.
There there Seth It's okay. I think you make a beautiful mother. Damien would have them walking funny for weeks. I swear there are very few people who would toss them out their beds if they woke up in the middle of the night to find him there. (Something he has done before. Damien has no concept of the word shame.)
Damien: Did someone say threesome?

Oh dear hun, what kind of tablet is it? One with pen pressure I hope? If this picture and all the rest turned out so great imagine with a tablet! And once you get the hang of itβ¦ itβll be like a secondβ¦ third arm! Only takes a week or so really. Although people believe that if you have a tablet youβre automatically amazing but unimpressive, not alllll that easy to use something without any traditional feel. And onward to the picture! My favorite part about your style is how you donβt wimp out on human features! I believe the human body is gorgeous in a lot of aspects. But in anime styles people tend to ignore the nose which I personally think noses are really neat, and you like always do a good job on them, people tend toβ¦ stick-I-fy their people until the muscles are non-existent. Buuuuuut you my dear are amazing. And people over-do the eyes a lot, yours are so shapely and mysterious ._.
And those necks!!!!!! Oh I wish I had such a long elegant neck like you draw your characters! Iβve always wanted to have the symbol of wealth and royalty! But alasβ¦. I have a short neck :c
The coloring you do is veryyyyy impressive. I often try the Monet/Picasso impressionism deal⦠I can do it I guess, but it IS hard. But it allows me to choose my favorite colors
And the love you put into each of your pictures!!! Iβm trying to pick out every meaning in this. Iβve been wondering, do the wires represent an umbilical cord?
And I know this is random but Iβm in love with the lighting on Sethβs tiny design-like thing by her arm-pit on the right.

Yeah, tablet is pretty difficult for me to work with. My friend's tablet is also small while my monitor is wide screen so I always wind up running outta room. >_> I hope to buy one for myself and take a few minutes here and there to practice on it. It's very tedioous to use PS's pen tool all the time.
Oh, I'm so happy you adore the details! I'm like you. I like anime, but many artists get to cheat with that style. They don't have to worry about how things in real life connect together. Take the nose: so true. The nose involves tiny ridges, bumps, and whatnot. With anime, it's a matter of drawing a single line. You don't have to worry about how light reflects off the nose bridge and slightly bounces on the nostril area. Nor worry about how the nose transitions to the cheeks (a very difficult area to draw!). It's the same with muscles. With anime, you can longagate everything and show small lines to indicate the bones, whereas if you did it realistically, you gotta include the bumps created with muscles and tissue. It's very laborious. I like conveying the body because it's really like a puzzle. When you got all the pieces working together, then you have an easier time spotting anatomical issues.
Eyes are beautiful and are my favorite part, but yeah, I can't stand the kitty-eyes that pop out at me. The sheer detail anime artists put into them really makes the overall image kinda corney to me. I guess because I wonder if the artist had the time to put a lotta effort in those eyes, why didn't they put some more effort on the body and environment?
Hah! Me too! I wish I had such a lovely, elegant neck like Seth's! >.< Mine's so small an thick.
I added more info in the MR account about those orbs. Here:
Those balls of light represent other universes, all of them are already mature. These universes are connected to the "mother", the creator of life, through tubes and veins. I think it's a pretty powerful statement and shows how much women have in common with the creator of the universe, in being able to hold the power of life within.
I don't know why, but I felt inclined to expose the breasts. I guess because it implies the ability to feed the infant child. At the same time, it adds an erotic tone to the overall image, especially with the nipple decoration and whatnot. I think sensuality is important, especially for pregnant women. The act of creation involves a very intimate act. And what the hell, pregnant women should feel sexy about themselves. ^_^
So why is Seth wearing such a decorative outfit? Well, if you haven't noticed, this image doesn't have the typical grid-like structure as seen in the previous two BOS images. I mentioned before that those structures represent God/ the Creator. In this image, though, Seth is the creator herself. She is intimately linked to creation. Therefore, *she* stands as the architecture structure. hence, why there are familiar grid-lock patterns all over her outfit.
LOL, thank you! And no, I don't think that's random at all. Part of the reason why I like this series is because it gives my audience a chance to digest it and pick their favorite parts of it. Mines probably the nostril area and the thighs.
