Really like it.
Original with a six-limbed dragon that doesn't walk on four legs, and the pure artwork is amazing.

This creature isn't mine, so I can't give you permission to use it. I only drew it because I was paid to do so by ~shiari , the person who created it. If you want to use this picture, you need to talk to ~shiari , not me.

Absolutely not. This is not a stock image, nor a stock character, and the character belongs do ~shiari and not me (so I couldn't let you use it anyway.)
...but thanks for asking.

Awesome! I'm in fact working on a thing about species for a story of mine, any advice?
(hope I'm not bothering you, it's just been incredibly hard to find this sort of work on dA)

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. What kind of thing do you want advice on? Making a reference sheet?
For a reference sheet, just include everything you think someone might need to know in order to draw this character correctly. I start with a main body view with colors, and if it flies, a diagram of the wings - the shape, how many digits, etc. Then I add pictures of whatever else needs a picture, like the color of the inside of the mouth and the type of teeth and tongue... stuff like that. Then I come along with text and point out the important stuff, just so you really can't miss it. Basically just keep in mind: "give the viewer everything they need to know to draw this character the way you want."

Ah, thanks. I'm really sorry that was confusing.
Your art looks really great! I love the detail in it, and thanks for the information on how to do a ref sheet.

Uh oh...but what if she gave it to me to use? Do I still get a spork in the jugular?

Well, she paid for it so she can do whatever she wants with it, as far as I'm concerned.
But for anyone else, it's the spork with them! >:E

Ahh my gosh you're fantastic at anatomy! The pose and stature/stance are so convincingly realistic, these could be images from a textbook! The wings are just about perfect as well. The coloring is also wonderful; love the texturing and shading. Overall this is a most excellent piece! Makes me want to commission you!

This is such a clean and to-the-point reference sheet. I really dig how you made the proportions just so - getting bipedal dragon-like creatures down isn't so easy. The detail you put into the folded wings is really nice, too. :3

Wait... So it has "Technically" four arms?
The only mythical creature to have four extensions plus wings is the Griffin. And even then those appendages are mainly used for walking.

shiari In reply to Infinitys--End [2007-08-10 20:20:53 +0000 UTC]
You clearly forget the western dragon. *grins* The shinoar are similar, only they have a therapodian stance.

Infinitys--End In reply to shiari [2007-08-11 05:27:13 +0000 UTC]
I've really got to brush up on my dragons studies...
Biologically speaking, the only creatures to have six or more appendages are insects.
Birds, bats, and winged creatures only have two legs and two wings, the wings doubling as arms. But are these dragons made up on the spot? Or are they historically drawn, or sourced from novels, movies, etc...?

shiari In reply to Infinitys--End [2007-08-11 06:43:30 +0000 UTC]
The shinoar are a visual representation of how I feel mentally. Thus, I made them up myself with no real references, and hence why I don't really consider them dragons. Warm blooded? No scales? Mammalian dentition? Not particularly dragon-like.

Indeed not, but still very cool.
I keep referencing them as "Raptors with wings."

Very beautiful. I love the way the wings attach partly to the tail; it makes it so they seem more stable and such (not so rippable). Very nice work, yet again.

really neat. :0 the wings almost look like they'd be the primary arms, and the others are just extras.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
shiari In reply to Shinerai [2007-08-10 14:47:24 +0000 UTC]
that would be correct actually. The middle limbs were for holding and fine manipulation. Gross movements, and gestures were performed by the wings, which is why the two thumbs are there. Let's em grab things and draw them closer.
