Description

I've left the last chapter of the shattered peaks event collecting dust, half-finished, in my esk folder, and I simply don't have the will to work on it anymore, neither remake it. With that said, enjoy this half-baked image!

The event is long over by now but I still wanted to upload this to finish it, as Tarό's story needs to move forward and this meeting is kinda important for him. I believe even if the event is over I can still get the blessing/curse for Tarό? correct me if I'm wrong.

------------

The confrontation.

"I do not know what your intentions were, but you have greatly affected my mountains, stranger."

His voice made Tarό's body rattle. Bones that he knew he no longer possesed felt like they were about to shatter under the rumble of the sound. And yet, despite the exhaustion and the fear and the absolute astonishment at the enormous being in front of him, he still somehow felt bewildered, even perhaps a bit annoyed.

"Affected how?" he dared to ask before thinking better of it -his own voice sounded so tiny and weak now.

Raaga moved slightly closer and Tarό struggled not to take a step back.

"They feel calmer. At ease. You set something right."

Tarό shook his head.

"I did nothing. I couldn't do anything. I left all I met untouched, I couldn't help them." Desperation rose in his throat. "They cried and begged and looked so pitiful, and I couldn't do anything. If they're fixed, perhaps someone else did it."

Raaga's eyes narrowed a bit, as if in a smile invisible without a mouth to curl upwards. There was something else there too, the glimmer of someone solving a puzzle, or finding the answer to a troubling question.

"But the broken and restless and weak, isn't a kindred spirit all they need to find peace? I am not insulting you." He added that last bit with a bark of breathy laughter that ruffled Tarό's fur. It was pleasant, reassuring, like a hand on his head, a memory burried so deep he had no image for it.

He still did feel a bit insulted, but he knew Raaga's word to hold a truth in them. He still had objections and questions but who was he in comparison to this ancient, this god-like being?

Raaga took up a low humming that made the breeze blow the last remains of mist away. Then he spoke again, and now his voice sounded even more distant and echoing.

"But you, you haven't found all that peace, meeting them, those like you. You seek things different than they did. I am not one to judge but I see a disservice was done to you long ago. May you find what you seek, and once you do, come to me again, and I'll show you what more there is in this life you were granted!"

Tarό bowed his head, a strange weight settling on his shoulders. He didn't know what to say, he felt he didn't even deserve the attention and the care Raaga was showing, but he couldn't form a single word.

Raaga rose up from where he was drapped across the mountaintop and the wind blew powerful enough that Τarό had to brace himself against it.

"I give you this blessing, child: may the mountains show you the way to find what you seek always. May paths show themselves clear before you and bring you to your destination safely. Fear not, for my mountains will watch over you." Shudders made Tarό's legs buckle and he fell on the rocky ground. The sun shone so bright he couldn't see anything. He heard boulders roll and tumble and he knew Raaga was turning to leave. He suddenly felt very tired. but before all the world faded he heard Raaga rumble one last time, quietly: "Weak indeed, can't handle a blessing..." the rest of his sentence was lost as a buzz filled Tarό's ears and all went dark.

When he became aware of the world again the sun was close to setting and as he got up he saw the snow that had covered the mountain top was almost all gone. The wind had turned mild and warm. And he felt spring calling him back to the forest from underneath his feet and the gravel before him seemed to be forming patterns and paths before his very eyes. He knew the way home.

In short: Tarό gets a blessing for being a weak and sad kiddo: mountains show the way

Seeing your work evolve over the time has really been a pleasure, i remember watching one of your images about one of your OC characters a couple years ago (I think was a kid sitting in a Rock) and finding your style very unique and beautiful

Oh and i love that you have crafted your own universe bit by bit
