OLD lineart. I drew this so I could play with my tablet. got a new driver installed so now i have actual pressure sensitivity!anyway i kinda mucked up the background but im still learning.

I think it has to do with the old notion of modesty being for a womans protection. by making a woman wear super restrictive clothing you were keeping her safe from unsavory elements, whereas by putting a woman on display you were making her vulnerable and objectifying her.

How come this outfit that is associated with slavery is light and airy, while the dresses European and American women were socially forced to wear as late as the 1950's were tight and restrictive (seriously, you could trip over the skirt)? Plus, clothing that lets in breezes is welcome in a place where high temperatures of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit are a regular occurrence five months of the year. Sure those pants are not totally form fitting, but it is better than wearing a dress. This is a favorite.
