Description My changling fact sheet! Not a fan of how I laid out this sheet but I was trying to get as much information as I could on it

----
Changlings have multiple stages of life;
- Eggs
- Larvae
- Pupae
- Nymph
- Adult
- Queen(usually only one at a time)

Eggs are covered in a thick adhesive that keeps them from falling off the ceiling, but it's also like sticky bubble wrap if they do fall. Keeps them from being damaged

Larvae hatch from eggs using their mandibles(the colored lines on the jaws of all changlings) to bite their way out and they fall to the floor. Their large amounts of fat absorb any damage from falling

Larvae and Pupae are fat and squishy until they have their first Nymph shed, which happens when they finally use up all their baby fat and need to shed the squishy skin.

Nymphs are much more muted than their adult counterparts. Females are usually paler while males are darker.

Nymphs LOVE to play fight. There is nothing better than chasing and fighting, of course gentle. Bites, rearing, headbutts, wing buzzing, it's wonderful practice for them.

Their first adult molt brings them to about the size of a teenage pony, and they have multiple more before they reach full adult size.

Their adult molt is when their colors finally become as vibrant as they'll ever be.

Female changlings tend to be more motherly and in charge, hense why Changlings follow a matriarchical society

Males are usually much more aggressive and defensive. They take their job as hive protectors very seriously, especially those that have been male all their lives.

At ANY point in a Changling's life, their sex can be changed! It only happens after a molt however. Their colors don't change, but their physical traits do

Changlings can be any gender, and many choose to be intersex.

Commonly changlings will change their sex to reproduce. They don't have to resort to magic for same sex couples to have babies! But they are stuck in that sex until their next molt. Which doesn't matter much in the changling civilization.

Eggs are laid in clutches then sealed to the ceiling with the adhesive. Clutch sizes usually run from 2 - 6, and usually they hatch all together.

Queens are the lifeblood of the Hive, the Hive cannot survive without a Queen. When Chrysalis was in charge, she was the reproducer, she usually laid the eggs, the Hive worked different. But now that they're reformed, love is much more prominent between members, and the population's ways have changed. Even so, the hive can not run without a Queen.

When Chrysalis fell, Thorax was roughly promoted to Queen. It was a biological change that could not be stopped and Thorax went through the Queen Molt simply because his biology said "oh you're taking the leader role, you're Queen now, we need one". Most Queens are decided by the Hive and go through training for the Queen Molt. Thorax was thrown into it.

Thorax is an intersex Queen, and still uses he/him despite being a Queen. But Thorax really doesn't mind it one bit. It was a rough change for sure, but he's made it work wonderfully.

Ocellus was picked as the next Queen by Thorax, and the Hive agreed. She was properly trained to take over the Hive and went through the Queen Molt.

When Ocellus took over, Thorax was able to retire, however he stayed in the Queen stage. It's the final stage and a Queen usually stays Queen until they either die or retire of old age. However Thorax is still young, but biologically he doesn't give off Queen pheromones anymore, therefore he has no leadership or control remaining. But Ocellus still goes to him for help and his opinion all the time.

If you have ANY questions about my Changling headcannon, leave a comment and I'll answer! I'm sure there's thoughts I missed or things I can clear up, it's difficult fitting as much information about a species as I can into one page of art that WONT crash my art program.
