Description EDIT 3.02.08:// [ FAQ ]
Q: Where do you buy paper star strips?

A: You can for sure buy paper strips at any Korean stationery store. You can probably even buy online? If you really can't find them, however, you can make your own; 15 x 1 cm paper strips.

Q: Help! I'm stuck! I don't get this?
A: Basically you're trying to use up the whole entire strip of paper until it runs out. What you're basically doing is this: take a flap, fold it over. Take the other flap, fold it over. Take the other flap, fold that... Tuck them under whenever you can as shown in step 4. Good luck!

OMG HUGE FILE D:

I sort of made a mistake by making this tutorial with those paper strips -.-;; I've always used 15 x 1 cm paper strips to make paper stars but these new ones are like... 19 x 1 cm D: If you use 15 x 1 cm paper strips, you do NOT need to cut! It should be perfect and you should be able to use it all :> I didn't know this but the new paper strips I've bought are strips used for both paper stars and paper hearts x_x;; oi.

Not the best tutorial out there...
probably one of the worst, rofl.

I never take requests--ever! But this is the one time I've fallen for it D: Ohnoes! Dx

GOOD LUCK!

Look forward to ANOTHER tutorial soon!! <3<3
For what? D: It's a secret! >:[

I tried making these, but mine look like utter crap. -3-
Pleh. But what am I saying? This is a great tutorial. I just can't go out and buy the strips for myself. Do you think I could get them at hobby lobby?

Last time I checked (and this was a year or so ago, so things might have changed!) I couldn't really find them at hobby stores... but you can always buy patterned sheets of paper and cut the strips yourself :) All you'd need is a ruler and a utility knife.

This gets really tedious, I know D; The only real places you'd find perfect ready-to-fold star strips would be at Korean/Asian stationery stores. About a dollar per pack--some places are like $1.50 though.

So basically it really depends on your location on where you can find strips of paper. Best of luck! :)

Well, I'm cutting them myself, and I can't get any good pentagons. I can't get them to 'inflate' either... Guess paper stars just aren't my type of oragami.

Possibly, but I made this well over an year ago with little to no intentions of editing it
(mostly because I like to leave past works alone for the sake of seeing improvements)

But thanks for the tip nonetheless. :)

RainCookie In reply to lalainsanity [2009-12-23 03:21:43 +0000 UTC]

I'd say 15 cm x 1 cm is perfect. Some people prefer 30 cm x 1 cm though :)
15 x 1 cm only works if you start the pentagon on the far right/left side.

It depends where you start.

You can even go 9 cm and it'll still work. :)

I've tried making these so many times, I can never pinch them properly at the end... it's so sad. I never realised people used paper star strips for them, i just use ordinary paper, it takes ages! Hehe thanks for letting us know... where on earth do you buy them though?
Your paper stars are perfect... I love them, they're the cutest! x

I love your tutorial, its very helpful ^^
the other ones i have seen arnt as detailed.
great job!
but there is a problem.
I live in Canada and there is no korean store in sight.
I made a 15X1cm paper to make my own but it was too short. the one on your tutorial the strip is MUCH larger.
is the paper 15 (inches) by 1 (cm)?

AWWWW what the hell, I made a 20cm*1cm paper stripe 'cause a 15cm*1cm wasn't even enough for step 7 (which I don't fully understand >_>, and it worked for me until step 9. HOW CAN I FOLD FURTHER WHEN THERE'S NO PAPER LEFT? :'(
