Oil on CanvasMy eldest daughter posed for this work.I wanted to create the atmosphere of the 18th century when a marriage was often arranged.
Here the maiden has received a love letter from the man she has promised to marry. The look on her face, although toughtfull makes you wonder if she is happy with the received attention.

to me it's like she contemplating the arranged marriage through her ring in the light of her oil lamp.i must point out that the dress in this picture is beautiful.i find the whole picture beautiful,i love Victorian themed anything really.

Was the setting of the painting meant to be during daytime? (I'm just wondering since I'm curious about the source of light)
In any case, this is wonderfully done; it gives off an air of a young lady in the Victorian age. The composition is simply elegant and yet stunning at the same time.
I don't know why but the way you paint the fabrics remind me of Antonio Balestra's style (it's just me I think).

I think you mean the 19th century (the 1800s) as opposed to the time of the American Revolution (the 18th century), but this is still lovely. I love paintings like this, and you usually have to look up the oldies-but-goodies to find them!

She looks... Sorta sad. Almost like she didn't have any other offers waiting in the wings, but she's not entirely sure that she's made a good match with the guy she's accepted.
I love her expression. It's so easy to paint happy, sad and the other extremes, but a look like this is so hard to capture and you've done it wonderfully. I absolutely love it.
