Description

Because of the Storm currently raging on Eurytos’ surface, I decided to suspend further exploration for the time being to prevent damage to our equipment. Giving me and my crew some well deserved free time. Time that I spent reminiscing about my Past…

Ever since I can remember, I was always fascinated with the Natural World. I was especially charmed by the large “Megafauna” that existed across the Galaxy. However, growing up in Antarctica meant that I didn’t develop, shall we say, a good sense of scale. As a kid, animals like Seals and Penguins felt incomprehensibly large to me. It wasn’t until my family took me on a vacation across Europe that I finally learned what true Scale actually meant.

Traveling across the Eurasian Steppe, I was captivated by one animal in particular: the Woolly Mammoth. Thanks to serious Environmental Efforts and groundbreaking advances in Genetic Research, they were among one of the first animals to be brought back from extinction. Despite many failed attempts, humanity was determined to resurrect the species, and in spite of all adversity, we eventually succeeded. As a consequence of these early failures however, the Woolly Mammoth now holds the rather unfortunate record of having gone Extinct not just once or even twice, but at least 17 separate times, depending on the definition. Nevertheless, Mammoths are today one of the most important allies to humanity. Creating a healthy Earth-like ecosystem requires a large number of species. And because Mammoths are considered a key species, they are a vital component of any Terraforming efforts.
As a result, there are now more Mammoths alive at this very moment than have previously existed in the past.
….Ever.
Roaming across the Frozen Steppes of hundreds of Terraformed Worlds, these majestic beings now number in the Billions.

As a young man, all of this didn’t matter to me of course. I was simply stunned by the beauty of these giant organisms. Because of my experiences on their wonderful continent, I decided to move there once I was an adult. Whenever I’m not away, doing research in the field, I live in a rather remote location in the Alps. A place that is home to a curious Herd of Mammoths. One young member of this tribe is especially close to my heart: a little calf I named Aida, who has known me since her birth. Although I guess she isn’t little anymore. This was the last picture we took before I headed off to explore Eurytos.
