Description "Religin is bad and it sucks! its responsible for all the worlds wars! if we got rid of religin, there would be no mar warz and thered be world piece! derp"

Even if we were to abolish and do away with religion, there would still be plenty for us to war and feud about. Take away religion and you'd still have greed, power struggles, corruption, and zealous bigotry, politics. Feuding and ambition is in human nature. Don't be naive, religion isn't solely to blame for wars. If you have this kind of thinking, you are part of the problem.

Intolerance, ignorance, bigotry, hatred.

Not to say, of course, that religion hasn't caused wars, just look at Jihad. All I'm saying is that religion isn't the root cause. Human nature is.

"im glade im not in their family, f'n loooneys"
-actual comment by a poster responding to a short news blurb about a family who chooses not to celebrate Halloween because of their religious beliefs. Because the only ones who are closed-minded, intolerant, hateful bigots are totally only the religious, amirite?

I can agree with that. The world's always going to have wars and violence and hatred, whether religion gets involved or not.

Getting rid of greed, hatred, intolerance, aggression, pride, and other ills of human nature will drastically reduce wars, contentions, and violence. Pretty much all religions teach and preach that; but there is always those who won't heed it or misunderstand it. The vast majority of the wars and armed conflicts stemmed from secular reasons and desires. Religion was banned/heavily restricted in the Soviet Union and China and they still had problems (and created more). It is like saying getting rid of people of a specific tribe, ethnicity, or nationality will get rid of wars too.

Religion is on its way out the door anyway, the people who spout this kind of nonsense make themselves look dumb to normal human beings to whom god is becoming little more than a blurry and fading afterthought.  Try reading something other than the Bible, like the Harry Potter series or Stephen king, I'm sure you'll want to throw the damn thing out right away afterward

Nope.  Read both, didn’t happen.  And last I checked, more than half the planet, maybe even more than 75% of the planet, was religious.

What a shame, you prefer a bunch of boring fairy tales over something of real entertainment value.  The more than half the world is religious argument is nonsense, it only takes into account the people who nominally identify to a particular religion.  Only the third world counts as mostly religious nowadays, maybe you should hop on the next flight to Afghanistan or something!

My idea of fun reading material are quantum physics books.

And when is the last time you saw someone worship their lord and savior Harry Potter?

Are people who identify as being part of a religion not part of that religion?

So, California?

And maybe you should hop on the next flight to China.

First of all, Harry Potter would be a cooler individual to worship than Jesus.  Second, yes, a lot of people lie about being religious, these "statistics" don't take into consideration the great number of people who are merely spiritual, irreligious, agnostic, etc.  Third, if you are religious, why are you even reading a science textbook?  I thought religion and science were mutually exclusive.  Last but not least, I think we could learn a lot from China, like how organized worship is inherently corrupt and wasteful.

So a whiny teenager whose only thing is being a baby who was enchanted by his mother, which is the real reason he survived an Avada Kadavra, and whose broken the law and done morally questionable things, is somehow a good guy to worship?

Where is your proof?

Nice joke.

Wrong. The Chinese said that, and got rid of religion, because it put a power above their dictator, and it gave something else for them to be loyal to. That was their excuse. And the Chinese murdered millions of religious people. Are you saying this is a good thing? Are you advocating genocide? And let’s not forget how fucked up the environment in China is.

So a carpenter who likely never existed and was in some convoluted way the son of God, which we must accept on faith alone, is better than an awesome kickass wizard who challenged an obsolete, authoritarian system and made the wizarding world a better place?  I think not.  Where is your proof God is even real, by the way?  He's as fictitious as Harry Potter.  In China, the majority of people were historically irreligious in any event, with or without a communist revolution.  The communists in charge of places like China, the Ussr, etc. would indiscriminately kill anyone not in line with their way of thinking, have you any compassion for people who were killed for reasons other than religion?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saiyanstrong In reply to EveOfEnvy [2018-11-29 23:01:16 +0000 UTC]

“Likely never existed.” Its generally accepted that Jesus existed, though most historians disagree on who he was.

A kickass wizard who got himself banned from school libraries.

He challenged Voldemort, the guy who did challenge the obsolete authoritarian system.

Many scientists that believe that there is a being that made everything. So why not God?

Really? So the Buddhists from Tibet, which was annexed by China, were not religious?

I do care about those who were killed for reasons other than religion, the real question is of you care about those who were killed because of their religious beliefs?

The historians are clearly deluded because the “facts” around Jesus are extremely obscure.  Muhammad also definitely existed, but I imagine which prophet was the real one is also unknown because the facts around him likewise are so obscure.  Is that really your beef with Harry Potter, the worst thing he did was get kicked out of a library?  :yawn  Which books series did you read, you idiot?  The same Voldemort who lied, stole, tortured and murdered innocent muggles and wizards alike, and would have continued had he not gone after Harry in the first place?  You are not right in the head.  Science and god are incompatible.  People get killed every day regardless of faith, numbnuts, why isn’t god looking out for his followers during their time on earth?

EveOfEnvy In reply to Saiyanstrong [2018-12-01 04:48:33 +0000 UTC]

Keep telling myself what, exactly?  Harry was just an ignorant kid in the beginning, how could he have known how bad things were? He took action as a teenager, though, and brought down umbridge and fudge, by proxy.  If god is omnipotent, he can look out for the faithful and use his mystical powers to save them from harm, right?    he’s either apathetic or lazy.  I don’t feel god was ever there for me, even when I believed as a naive youngster.  People can only do so much, why did god make us imperfect in the first place?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saiyanstrong In reply to EveOfEnvy [2018-12-01 15:23:34 +0000 UTC]

That science and God are incompatible.
He does help them, when they truly need it. He lets people try to undo whatever fucked then over first, and if they can’t he helps. But usually, people can help them, or other people can. God tries not to interfere unless absolutely necessary.

Did you ever ask for his help? Did you ever pray? Were you religious when you were younger.

If we were perfect, what point would there be in anything? Life would be rather boring if you were perfect. There would be no individuality. If everyone were perfect, we would all think, act, and possibly look the same. Because we were perfect. And that would be boring and sad.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EveOfEnvy In reply to Saiyanstrong [2018-12-01 17:06:43 +0000 UTC]

God is a manmade being, man created God, not the other way around.  What exactly does prayer do for anyone?  It's useless.  Science is based on fact derived from experimentation, religion works in the direct opposite.  You once again contradict yourself by saying people have what it takes to solve any problem they have, fair enough, so why should God ever intervene in our affairs?  Maybe "God" isn't as omnipotent as you'd like to think.  What is the point of God's existence if it's perfect, then?  God would probably get bored and just annihilate himself from the imaginations of every man and woman if that was the case.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Saiyanstrong In reply to EveOfEnvy [2018-12-02 15:53:31 +0000 UTC]

Wrong.

Prayer does help.

You seem to be under the misguided train of thought that religion, is the opposite of science.

God intervenes when we can’t solve our problems. The common one nowadays seems to be illness.

I don’t know. I’m honestly not perfect, nor am I omnibenevolent (all good), omniscient, omnipotent, or omnipresent. So to me, being perfect might sound boring. But if I was actually perfect, I might feel differently.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EveOfEnvy In reply to Saiyanstrong [2018-12-02 16:52:09 +0000 UTC]

Science and religion are opposites, everyone knows this except apparently for dogmatic nutbags with a warped sense of reality like you.  God doesn’t cure anyone from illness, you have modern medicine to thank for that.  What about poverty, hunger, genocide, etc...?  God doesn’t seem keen on stopping any of that.  As for prayer, I doubt it’ll help, but I could pray you magically break your fingers and can’t bother anyone anymore online, how does that sound?

Saiyanstrong In reply to EveOfEnvy [2018-12-03 03:23:01 +0000 UTC]

No. Atheism or anit-theism (the difference between them is as follows. Atheism: there is no such thing as gods, and religion is useless. Anti-theist: THERES NO SUCH THING AS GODS YOU STUPID F@&K, AND RELIGION IS F$&KING STUPID! REEEEEE REEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!) are the opposite of religion. Magic would be the opposite of science.

Dogmatic. Ironic, coming from someone who is claiming they are right and I am wrong, and there is no way in existence that I am wrong and you are right.

What about unexplainable occurrences of diseases such as MS or cancer being cured? Just vanishing with no explanation, leaving doctors baffled.

Humans can stop all of those things if they actually tried.

That won’t happen, because I’m not doing anything wrong.

Religion is the opposite of science because there is zero logic behind it, merely blind faith.  Magic is not real, never has been, never will be.  Well, if god exists, it hasn’t done that great a job of revealing itself to me.  Maybe god doesn’t have a direct line to the fallen?  Cancer simply going away has never happened in the history of ever, you deluded moron, have your meds finally started to kick in?  Misfortune has been with us from day one, just accept it.  And I happen to like horses, you should try it too, christ fucker!
