Description FULL VIEW FOR TUTORIAL

Finally, after countless requests, I made a full tutorial just on how I do eyes. It really is simple, after a few tries I think you should be able to do it (as long as you know how to insert layers, etc. in photoshop). If you have problems or questions with it, feel free to ask me The full image that goes with this can be found here (if you haven't seen it already): [link]

Well, enjoy Oh, and if you want the digital painting tutorial, it can be found here: [link]

Thyx. I found this and your other stuff very helpfull! Dont mind the haters, just keep doing your thing.

@the haters: Art is Art, and is judged on a personal level. To make a generalistic statement like "All anime looks the same"(and thats generalized because it wasnt followed up with [IM0]) only proves that you have no respect, and should thus be deemed as ignorrant and shunned from any community that appreciates art(in any form) - Not to even mention the fact that If in your opinion you dont like the particular piece and have nothing constructive to say, then you should simply "shut up"! Im pretty sure we all learned that In kindergarden~ Finished.

About the anime discussion, all anime is cartoony and such.

But can you really tell me that you are blind enough to see Akira Toriyama's art [Dragonball Z] the same as like Kubo Taito-sama's [Bleach] or Tensai Okamura [Darker than BLACK].

But I do think that manga's are killed somewhat in the transfer to anime. I read Bleach and I prefer that to watching the anime. (It is more obvious to see the differences and the talent in manga.)

okay, so, on the first 3 steps at the top, how do you lineart the eye in black without going outside of the lines onto the rest of the page? I mean, I get you have to make another layer and all, but how do you block the other parts except for the part you want colored in black? I guess that made sense...the layers get me confused sometimes!

Hey there - I'm here on behalf of a site called Coloring Dragons ( [link] ) that is essentially an artist's community. We're looking into setting up a tutorials section made up of hundreds of different artist's cheats and tips and would love it if we could include this one amongst them! Obviously you would still be given 100% of the credit for making it and there would be a link included with your name to any internet gallery you happen to own so that even more people can see your work in action. If this sounds good to you then get back to me and we'll sort out any questions you may have

EVERYTHING is art. If you do not think anime is art, who the hell are you? art is an opinion, not a law. EVERYONE percieves art differently. You can NEVER say art is wrong.
I didn't bother to read every last frikin' post, I just wanted to share my thoughts, Because thats what art is.

very nice tutorial ^_^ and I love your art
lol anyways I like both anime and realism.

Well I'm not sure if any of you have seen the episode on the Discovery channel about ancient chinese art, and japanese art.

Actually the chinese didn't like realism back then. They felt that realism in a way is unoriginal, and they felt that in a way it is just "copying" how something looks, and doesn't require as much creativity. And the ancient chinese art's focus was more on the background, unlike in western art where the focus is on the character.

Japanese art however was more focused on lines. Depending on the situation, like for example... drawing a pic of a dancer, and showing the music with the lines, like long flowing lines for slow music and like zigzags for noise and such. Vincent Van Goh even took some inspiration from japanese art as said in the discovery channel. And actually that's where anime originated, not from he-man and stuff like that which were only patterned on western cartoons.

Nowadays anime is kinda a multi-cultural creation, you'll see hints of western art ideas in it like shading, and having one light source. And you'll also see hints of ancient arts from japan, like how hair strands are usually shown in the highlights which is in a flowing zigzaging style most of the time.

I guess in my opinion though art isn't just about copying things, like any good artist can copy the mona lisa or the last supper but it isn't the same as creating it from your own mind ... it's more about interpretting something, with your lines, colors and how you use them all in combination to produce harmony. So anime artists should try to learn realism, and those who like realism should also learn anime. And try to learn from different art forms, cause you can use anything you learn, on all forms of art wheter anime or realism.
