They're hidden pretty well since Deviant Art makes it into a "link" button. Here's a site that you can get leather from, and as I said you can check out auctions, or just google up vegetable tanned leather and see what comes up. [link]

If you look on the first page of comments, I have a few links up for different leather suppliers. You can also try ebay and other auction sites, but I'd be wary, you can get old/unsuitable leather quite easily.

Hi!
This is such a simple yet informative tutorial!
Thanks so much!
I'm surprised at how easy this medium can be to work with...something I have to try one of these days!

Leather armor is made out of this kind of leather as well, although a much thicker weight (and it's usually finished differently as well).

I'm definitely going to try this out, should I ever get some suitable leather. I've wanted to make my own mask for the longest time, but could never think of a way to make it solid and comfortable. Thanks so much for uploading this.

The nice thing about masks is that they use very little leather, especially for something like a simple domino mask.

Yeah, and it doesn't have a set look to them. Infinite customization! It's lovely.

I don't think I could make the same exact mask each time even if I wanted to. The very nature of leather and dye fights against that.

This is nine kinds of kickass!
I've wanted to try this for a while, but I honestly had noooo idea where to begin.
Now I'll probably start working toward compiling what I need to do it and give it a go.
Really awesome of you.(:
Especially the pictures-- now there's no way I'll get confused.

If you get a chance, make a life cast of your face with plaster wrap or algenate. Then make a positive plaster form from that negative. Once you seal the plaster you can form your leather masks over the hard surface with greater ease. You can go at it with a burnishing tool or even a junky old tea spoon to really mold the leather to the details of the face.

Thanks! And lucky for you, the same principles apply to the smaller version, except yours will dry MUCH faster, which can be a real boon.

Really neat! It's great to see the process of making a mask like that.

This mask would look great with a little cluster of fake holly berries and some ribbon trailing down.... you could wear it to a Christmas ball

No problem, I got the gist of it from "The Leatherworking Handbook: A Practical Illustrated Sourcebook of Techniques and Projects" you might want to check it out if you like playing with leather.

I mention somewhere in the replies a couple of sites that sell leather online, unfortunately I can't remember which one the Memorial Union ordered from for the workshop I held. I still have a huge hunk of hide that I got from The Leather Factory, they have stores scattered about the U.S.
