Description EDIT: Felt the original comic was too short, so I added an extra scene and corrected a spelling error.

........ Alright, let's get the big question out of the way first shall we?

Is Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice a rush job to get to a potential Justice League movie?

....... Stalling tactic.....

....... No.

I do want to make one thing clear. I'm not what you'd call "A DC Comics fan." I mean I enjoy the comics on occasion, love the games, movies and cartoons but if you asked me a deep DC question then I'd probably get it wrong. Marvel is more my thing BUT I said I'd give this film a fair chance. So any Easter egg or reference may in fact fly over my head.

Oh and they'll be spoilers. You've been warned.

First, the good.

I was pleasantly surprised by alot of things regarding this movie. The method surrounding the Justice League wasn't what I was expecting. In that the movie establishes Meta Humans have existed on Earth long before Superman and are in hiding. Showing off hints of Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg intrigued me enough to go and watch their films and I'm actually excited for a Wonder Woman movie. If the basic plan is that Bruce Wayne and Diana go out and find these other heroes and team up, which leads into a Justice League movie then that's ..... Actually a clever idea.

In that they are doing initial set up films like Marvel did which will lead into the big pay off in the Justice League.

However if Justice League is next then disregard what I just said.... sadly.

I also liked the fact it acknowledged something Marvel took 5 films to do after The Avengers. In that Superman is held accountable for the events of Man of Steel. I mean seriously? Where was General Ross with his Super human registration act when Loki destroyed New York? It did give the film a sense of realism and basically that's how we'd react if a Superman existed.

I liked the casting choices for the most part (oh well get to that) for nothing really stood out as bad. Jeremy Irons being my fav actor in the entire film. I fucking adored his portrayal of Alfred Pennyworth, he wasn't so much a Butler this time around but more of Bruce's eyes and ears. In a similar manner to the role he played in the Arkham Series.

Ben Affleck as Batman.
I think this is one of many things the Internet was stone dead fucking wrong about. While no other Batman has come close to the performance Michael Keaton or Adam West offered (Yeah bite me Nolan-fanfucks even Bale admits he wasn't that good!) I will say I was actually sold on him as The Dark Knight. I did not like the fact he was branding people, but I honestly enjoyed what he offered. You could clearly tell this was a seasoned Batman and not somebody starting out for the first time. The suit was amazing, the Batmobile was perfect and overall I await that potential Under the Red Hood movie being rumored.

I did hear alot of Marvel Fanboys (more deluded than myself) pissing and moaning about the movie being "TOOOO DAAAAARRRRK!" Well no shit assholes. Anything involving Batman has to be! Not to mention fucking DOOMSDAY on a rampage. Sorry kiddies, no Avengers with corny one liners for you to make unfunny memes about here!

But seriously, I don't think you could have told this story in a light hearted manner so I'll let the tone slide here. If all the sequels are like this then it'll be a problem for me. The cinematography easily beats the living shit out of ANY of the Marvel films. This film is gorgeous!! From the lighting, camera set up and atmosphere. I found myself on the edge of my seat at times and is something of a roller coaster WHEN it gets rolling.

Gal Godot as Wonder Woman.
Granted she had about the same amount of screen time Black Widow had in Iron Man 2, but I am sold on her as WW. One bit I got a kick out of was that smirk she pulls when battling Doomsday and I really liked the costume. Sure it could use more color but yeah it actually works. Not much to say beyond that for the limited amount of screen time she had and I don't really know much about the character but seeing the golden lasso was nice.

Despite WB saying "This is NOT a Man of Steel sequel" I like how the film acknowledges the events of that film, by addressing the damage and casualties Superman was partially (not all) responsible for. Even the big throw down with Doomsday was "in an abandoned part of the city" so nobody will piss and moan about Supes killing people this time!

The fight with Doomsday (not really a spoiler anymore since they gave that away IN THE FUCKING TRAILERS!!!!!) was pretty bad ass if I'm being perfectly honest. I also found it highly amusing how useless Batman looked in a fight with an actual monster. No gadget would save his ass in a one on one here.

Did it need to be in the film? No, but let's get into that shall we?

Now.... We come to the bad.

You'll be VERY surprised to hear I only have THREE complaints.... Out of the endless pile unreasonable dickbacks have who site Rotten Tomatoes as a "credible source!"

First. Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.

What, the fuck, did I watch?

Oh and don't give me that "But he's Lex's son!" bullshit, that will not fly with me. Lex Luthor, from what I know of the character, is the greatest criminal mind of our time with another ingenious plan up his sleeve. The owner of LexCorp which does dodgy dealings in one hand while doing pseudo humanitarianism in the other. With a frobbing 18 inch hate boner for Superman and will do ANYTHING to have his head mounted above his fireplace...

.... He is NOT some irritating little fuck which feels like a slap in the face to people with Asperger's Syndrome.

This is not Lex Luthor to me, and is a blemish on this films nearly flawless casting choices. He pretty much ruins every scene he appears in and is an irritating little shit to boot. Also the fact he knows Superman IS Clark Kent really screams BULLSHIT for there was no revelation or scene showcasing this discovery. You could say "Oh but Lex KNEW of the Meta Humans!" well riddle me this, if that's true then how come Superman isn't in those files? Also WHEN has General Zodd ever been Doomsday exactly? I must of missed that when I read The Death of Superman! Also his plan was just plain fucking stupid.

Lex: I have your mom Clark, you can have her back if you kill Batman.
Superman: But I can easily hear her voice with my super sonic hearing, instantly fly to her with my ridiculous speed and save her before you goon can lay a finger on her.

Lex: ..... Oh shit.

Batman: ..... *looks at his bat-watch* ..... I don't think he's coming!

Fuck Eisenberg! He can rot in that prison cell for all I care.

A thing that really bugged the fuck out of me and my brother was the conclusion to the Batman Vs Superman portion of the film. You know, for a film called "BATMAN VERSES SUPERMAN!!!" they barely spend anytime going at it. I've seen Zack Ryder matches last longer than what is considered "The greatest gladiator match up in the history of the world" according to Eisenberg (I refuse to call him Luthor)

I wasn't timing it exactly but I could of sworn they were fighting for a whopping 5 minutes, in a 2 and half hour movie.

But getting to the really weird part. Batman HATES Superman up to this point, yet learning there mothers have the same name, suddenly it's all "BEST FRIENDS FOREVER!" I mean WHAT? What happened to "He's an alien who must be stopped!" yet having similar parental names means that's all forgotten? Oh fuck you movie!

What's next? Civil War concludes cus Tony finds out Cap's dad supported the same baseball team his dad did?

While Jessie Eisenberg is the one thing I detest about the film, the last thing I want to touch on is the pacing problems. In that this movie cannot make up it's mind on what it wants to be. Does it want to be Man of Steel 2? Does it want to be The Dark Knight Returns? Does it want to be a prequel to The Justice League? Does it want to be DC's answer to Civil War? Does it want to be The Death of Superman? Does it want to be the story arc where Lois and Clark get married?

Or does it try to be all of the above and fail miserably?

Do not misunderstand my words folks. I am not saying Dawn of Justice is an awful movie and it's certainly NOT the worst movie of 2016, that honor goes to the soon to be proven awful Ghostbusters reboot. I will say on it's best possible day, the movie is a 3/5 at most. Not the worst super hero movie ever (That's Fant4stic) and it's certainly not the best either (Batman 1989) but it lands somewhere right in the middle. All the critics can choke on the fattest part of my cock for as a biast Marvel fan I can say I liked half of this movie. Which is what I predicted to be my reaction before watching it. Mainly that it tried to squeeze all of those story lines I listed into one narrative and it just couldn't do it.

The Bat Vs Super fight was resolved quickly, so we could get to Doomsday and that needed to get to the Death of Superman, which in turn needed to get to Wonder Woman. You could practically hear Zack Snyder yelling shit like "OKAY LET'S HURRY THIS UP, I WANT TO GET TO DOOMSDAY!!" so he can do his standard CGI wank fest nonsense.

Basically he's Michael Bay if he went to college.

I could nitpick and say the Jesus imagery needs to go the fuck away, that confusing dream sequence with Flash about "LOIS IS THE KEY!!" going nowhere and that 80% of the film was seen in trailers but honestly? The movie could be easily transformed with an editor and chopping out alot of shit that didn't need to be in here at all.

But do you know what would have fixed all of it?

Making this into 2 films.

2016 - Batman Vs Superman.
2017 - Dawn of Justice.

There is a flawless movie in here, it's burred under too much padding, unnecessary dream sequences (including a really unneeded retelling of Batman's origin story) and too much exposition that could make up 7 movies! I will watch it again on DVD (which I hear has 30 minutes of extra footage) and I am curious to check out those potential solo films but I will say Warner Bros have alot of work to do in getting this ship on the right track.

They can start by getting rid of Zack Snyder.

I just don't get why some of my favourite Youtube movie critics are still obnoxiously hating and making fun of this movie with made up arguments one month after it's been out. Do they really believe they're being funny? I genuinely liked BvSoJ, mostly because after Avengers AoU I promised I'd never set my expectations too high on any movie. I liked that Eisenberg's plan of was actually evil and made some sense, unlike any other movie Lex Luthor I've ever seen. I didn't care that Batman killed people, all movie Batmen kill and this one made up for it with his incredible suit and Batmobile. I felt for Superman's pain of seeing innocent people get killed everywhere he goes and how that lead up to that surprisingly brutal fight with Batman. And lastly, seeing Wonder Woman V Doomsday and Superman getting a nuke to the face and dying was worth the whole Martha thing.

To sum things up, I liked all the good parts and didn't care for the not so good ones, so it breaks my DC fanboy heart seeing so much backlash and hate for an okay movie and that the DCEU may be going to be full of Man of Steel's: divisive movies that I like but a good part of the internet hates. Now I'm off to listen to Hans Zimmer and JunkieXL's MoS and BvS soundtracks, they're freacking epic!!!

I saw the film and I'll give my pros and cons.:
The Pros:
Ben Affleck as Batman- He was amazing. He was actually terrifying as Batman. And his Batsuit looks incredible. It's almost as if it came straight from the Arkham games. Even as Bruce Wayne he was spot on. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing a solo Batman film featuring him.

Jeremy Iron as Alfred- I loved him. He was genuinely funny and caring.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman- I was actually worried that her appearance would be gimmicky after reading the reviews but I was honestly surprised. she looks amazing. Now I'm actually interested in the Wonder Woman movie.

Jessie Eisenberg as Alexander Luthor Jr.- this may sound shocking but I had little to no problem with his take on Luthor. He was more of a creepy sociopath and he showed a lot of charisma although it reminds me of Jim Carrey's Riddler. He was punchable and irritating but in a fun way.

The cinematography was beautiful and well made- this is a film that's pretty to look at. It's well produced.

The Bat-Cave looks incredible- I really like the new take they gave to the Batcave. It looks awesome.

The new Batmobile looks sweet and it's a worthy addition to all the Batmobiles.

I like the segment of the Pro and Anti Superman segments. They were pretty interesting(I know they were taken straight from Dark Knight Returns)

The fight between Batman and Supes was kinda fun to watch. The way Batman used the different kind of Kryptonite based gadgets is kind of creative.(I know it was taken from multiple DC Comics stories like Hush, Dark Knight Returns etc)

The small cameos featuring Cyborg and Aquaman were well made and organic to the movie.

And the final battle between Doomsday was awesome

Sadly the film has huge problems and those are.....

Cons:
The writing- the writing seems to be a bit unfocused. The writters should have focused more on the rivalry between Batman and Superman rather than shoving down all the Justice League references.

The cameo of Darkside in the Knightmare sequence was dumb. As much as I loved that scene it was unnecessary. If it didn't had the Omega symbol then it would have been fine. An interpretation of Bruce's fear and paranoia regarding Superman.

The cameo of Flash was kind of dumb IMO. I kind of wish it was cut.

I wish Lex was given more deveolpment. His reason to kill Superman felt paper thin and I think creating Doomsday was a bit excessive. he didn't cared that it was about to kill Lex.

I don't like that Batman kills. The could have been handled better IMO. Now he's no better than the criminals.

It would have been nice at least if they showed Superman at least smile and be a bit more friendly. I don't blame the actor. I blame more the script because it doesn't give him much to do.

In all honesty the movie is not as good as Man of Steel. While that film had flaws at least the writing felt focused. Batman v Superman on the other hand tried to juggle too many things at once(script wise).
But that doesn't mean that the film was bad. In all honestly I thought it was fine(I honestly found it more entertaining than Watchmen). The problem is with the script(Blame David Goyer). While I don't have a rage boner against Zack Snyder I think he should be replaced for someone else in the next installment. Maybe like George Miller(He was gonna direct Justice League Mortal), Michale Vaungh(X-men First Class) or Joss Wheadon. I do hope they focus more on the stand alone movies like the upcoming Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad and Aquaman.

But I also get why the critics don't like it. I'm not gonna hate them for voicing their displeasure. And I also not gonna hate the fans who loved the movie.

So in short I liked the movie and I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Yeah it has it's problems but I don't quite get the negative feed back it's getting.

I thought it was mediocre. It had moments of excellence (Bruce in Metropolis in the opening, and ANYTHING to do with Wonder Woman) But I thought it was structured poorly and I was not buying Eisenberg as Luthor at all. Ben Affleck was great as Batman, but I kind of wish he didn't use guns, I've read the older Batman comics and The Dark Knight Returns so I know he's used guns, but I can't really see him as a hero when he's using the weapon that was used against his parents. (Although it made sense for him to use guns in that dream scene which was a great scene) And it feels like they were cramming too many elements from different comics into this.

Overall, meh, I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5. Still I'm very glad you enjoyed it more than I.

I'm really looking forward to the Wonder Woman film (LOVED Gal Gadot, as a seasoned Wonder Woman fan, I'd say she was perfect), Cyborg seems interesting, I hope they kill it better in a solo Batman film, and The Flash... TV series is something I should watch. Yeah I was not impressed with this Flash from what little we saw, but I've caught up with Arrow to the point where I should watch The Flash now.

I personally have mixed feelings on the film, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. I definitely agree that the biggest way they could have fixed a lot of its problems was splitting it into separate films as I felt some subplots would have honestly benefited more if they were made into their own movie and had time to develop.

As for when Batman sparing Superman after learning his mother's name was Martha, I think that was more because he realized Superman wasn't as godlike as he thought. He told Superman that he isn't a man and just thought of him as some alien that believed himself a God, and I think learning he had a mother made Batman realized his previous perception of him wasn't true and he was more human that he thought. That's how I looked at it anyway.

That does make alot more sense.

You know it's bad when we're making more sense of the film than the film itself.
