Description
Sorry for the poor quality, I should have used my room mate's half of the room because it's so much neater. Look at all that crap on my desk!!! I will be a smiley Dante, because it's impossiblefor me not to.And does anyone know if laurels went all the way around the head? I made mine not to, and that was one thing I was never sure of. And no shoes because....I just didn't feel like wearing the now.
Once again, I can't stop thanking my mom for sewing this <3<3<3
It's amazing that my Robert Pinsky translation has not fallen apart from use yet. The Inferno will always be my favorite.

Me, not so much. But I missed out on dressing up as a little kid, so it's time to have fun now

the whole costume is perfect, italian features or no. I love dressing up so much, I don't care how old I am!(17) I go all-out. This year I hand stitched a Kimono and obi referencing photos of real kimonos (I wanted it to be as real as possible)
I probably would make a good Dante, but I don't know...I have to be guys in all the little plays and stuff me and my friends put on (thick eyebrows, square jaw, farely large nose, I think it's an italian one, but who knows) so I always do female costumes when I can...I'll go as Beatrice. JK. I'm reading the paradiso, and no mortal woman could be her convincingly.

The costume looks amazing! I think some laurels don't go all the way around the head. Actually, I've seen alot of those.
I rarely see the kind that goes all the way around the head.

Not only was he an amazing historical figure, his cool clothes are an added bonus!

Nice!
Regarding the laurel: I think all the ones I've seen (paintings, etc.) look like they go either all around or nearly so, though I'm hardly an expert. ^.^'
And I like the Robert Pinsky version very well, too - it seems more true to the original than Longfellow's (though they each have their merits...)

I've tried to listen to some of Longfellow's translation (and am a fan of Mathew Pearl's novel "The Dante Club") and it's truly poetic but the language itself is over a century old, and you know how wordy some of it can get. I don't think Pinsky translated Purgatoria or Paradiso which is sad...Thanks for that about the laurels! It's hard to tell with art whether the images are historically accurate or something the artist wanted to glorify.

Maybe I'll try to recreate the pattern if anyone else wants to attempt to make it!

Oh, I'd definitely be interested in that! Even if it's just a small sketch of the pattern.
