It's done! It's finally done! No, not the comic itself, sadly, but the comic preview/wallpaper I've been slaving over (off and on) for the past few weeks!

So yes. The basic premise of "And Cut!" (working title until somebody either assures me it's a good name or suggests something better) is that they're filming a documentary about a band of has-been adventurers in a typical fantasy world. Think "Spinal Tap" meets "Final Fantasy." Spinal Fantasy, if you will. In any case, hilarity, not to mention madcap hijinks, inevitably ensues. Whee.

Okay, the characters, in roughly clockwise order, are: red-headed white mage Denton, noble yet troubled soldier Glaive, mysterious black mage Foley, dumb blond spiky-haired sword-toting hero-type Cress, requisite princess with a pendant Nika, sullen and sarcastic red mage Venn, gaming-obsessed thief Elgarth, and purple-haired summoner Shea. I think I managed to cram a pretty good number of RPG stereotypes into the main cast, although not all of them will be apparent until I actually start the comic. Which will happen. Eventually.

Making this was a very slow process, mostly because I'm still working on the character design (I realize now that I left out some little details, but I'm going to rationalize it by saying the picture was getting too cluttered). Basically, I set aside an afternoon for each of the characters. The arrangement of the characters in the scene has changed a lot from what I originally imagined, but I like how it turned out. I actually had to horizontally flip Venn and Glaive, and am fairly proud of the fact that it isn't that obvious (I almost forgot to reverse the colors of Venn's little spells, though. >.> ). In the future I may use a thinner brush and turn off the stylus pressure feature to get more detail and consistency. Oh, and I had no idea what I was doing with most of the anatomy (Glaive's arms took forever, and I'm still not convinced they look right), so any advice on that would be appreciated.

I always wonder whether anyone ever actually reads my long-winded deviation descriptions. If you did, you have my deepest sympathies.

Remember, your comment just might give me the motivation I need to finally get started on this thing (I'd be particularly interested to hear if anybody has a favorite character already). Enjoy!
