impressive! and i didn't know there was a Cloak n' Dagger group here on DA i'll have to go through it when i get some free time later tonight. i left a comment on that Richard Cox CnD piece as well thanks for the heads up on these on the Rom blog. there's actually a lot of real good CnD fan art here on DA it's too bad no one has done a CnD/Rom spaceknight piece yet.

EeK! I love these two! I remember I had one issue of Cloak and Dagger - I am sure I still have it somewhere. I don't know how many times I looked through that thing!
You captured their old spirit well. Lovely work my friend!

Wow, man. This reminds me a lot of Rick Leonardi's stuff. His pencils have such a kinetic, bouncy feel. This is so much fun to look at. I love it man.

I've gotten the Leonardi comparison before, and I couldn't be more flattered! I love that guy's art! Especially Cloak & Dagger and Spiderman 2099.

Yeah, man. I remember an issue he did of New Mutants when I was a kid. Friggin' awesome. He filled in on Nightwing and it was amazing. Leonardi's style is so fluid. I think you pull off the same bubbly energy with your women, but they seem more solid. Not a slight on him, I just think his style is so loose it sometimes looks like each page formed itself.
Thanks too for checking out my gallery. I think I've just let the negative reviews get to me too much. Angel Medina told me something along the lines of what you said. He too is amazingly nice. He said: "Stop showing your work to anyone but editors. Other artists will tear you apart or inflate your ego, but they won't get you work."
Last thing: Did you stinkin' know he co-designed the black and white spidey!? That's stinking amazing! I knew Mike Zeck worked on it, but I just found out he worked on it too.
Anyway, I'm sure I've worn you out for the day. Have a good one man!

Wow awesome! Kind of a nice tribute to Rick Leonardi. In a way, his style was precursory back then to guys today-such as yourself, Campbell, and MAD.
I'd love to see Townsend ink you.
Be like the good old Byrne/Austin days

Hi
Amazing drawing Cloak and Dagger has been my favourite characters since I was. i dont think they were ever given enough care to gain even a little bit more of recognition. with proper work they could have been an amazing hero heroine couple. and today they would have made one helluva feature film. But they were neglected yet your drawing gives them a recognition long overdue.

Wow sorry i'm a little late to this party. C&D are my fav duo at Marvel. or anywhere.
This pic is awesome. Kinda reminds me of the Leonardi stuff. He did some really terrific covers and pinups.
Can't wait for you to coerce Marvel into letting you do this sometime.

Holy!
I have this print on my wall at home with your auto via the bay.
It's by far one of my favorite pieces of art. Pencils, inks and subject are all perfect (or damn close).
If there was any justice in the world you'd be working on a Cloak & Dagger series right now.
Welcome to Deviant Art. I'm glad I found your page.
PS - Your cover to Teen Titans #47 is tight. I'm half afraid the colored version won't do it justice.

I hope so! More and more these days as I see more original pencil art I realize how much can be lost in the transfer from pencils to inks to colors if the other parts of the equation don't compliment the artist.
best wishes

This is a great piece of work with a pair of really fun characters. I love the face on Dagger - she's got a real sweetness that helps define her within the context of the drawing. The way her hair flows and her body moves with those gentle curves is a great contrast to the sharp lines and edges you used on Cloak.
I gush, yes, but deservedly so. Nice job.

I loved Cloak and Dagger as a concept, though their stories were never more than sub-par that I read. I really think their biggest appeal was their pin-up-ability. You can't not have fun with the flowing cloak of clock and incredibly sharp, sexy lines on dagger.
Not that you need to hear it, but nice work!

I forgot his story, doesn't his cape eat people or something?

Phandagart In reply to healthyinsanity [2007-04-02 17:16:25 +0000 UTC]
Almost, his cape is a gateway to the Darkforce Dimension which coerces him to absorb life forces. But luckily Dagger's light energy can satisfy this hunger.

Yeah, this series needs a relaunch. I sent this pic and a note to the guy at Marvel in charge of C&D because I had heard they were thinking about coming out with a new book, but I never got a response. Even a "no thanks" would have been better than no response.

Great looking peace. The characters look very fluid like when Rick Leonardi would draw them. I wish Marvel would give them their own book again.
