Description A commission for a close friend. We originally talked about having a bunch of animals in all the branches, but Su decided to keep it simple and have just one blue bird of happiness in a branch. It actually goes above her bathtub. One of the most beautiful bathrooms I've seen...this is a resin cast and it measures 3 ft. wide and 2 ft tall...

Beautifully crafted, love the colours and textures, and the one blue bird is the perfect touch!

Dude, I'm loving this. The color and textures are both amazingly well done. It feels properly earthy and organic.

This piece is phenominal! I love working on a larger scale too because I am a detail freak. I struggle on smaller arts.

Thank you so much! You're right, so many people don't realize how much easier it is to work on a larger scale. I feel like I'm going to go cross-eyed and my neck and shoulders cramp up, when I work really small.
Thanks again!
Take care

*rubs back of neck* "Maybe that is why my neck is so sore."

Absolutely gorgeous, and enormous! You'll have to take a picture of it in situ, I'd love to see it in perspective!

thanks for the compliment! We were just at our friends place last week and it's fun to see it above her tub. We were originally going to do it in bronze but she didn't want the earthquakes to knock it off the wall in to the tub...might be painful....
thanks again,
Take care,
R

Ha! Yeah, death by four tonne bronze wall adournment isn't everyone's idea of a quiet night relaxing in the tub. Although, it'd make a great photo!

Thanks!
My friend Su gave me a few tiles to work with for color samples. A lot of the colors come out of this custom crushed glass counter top that was amazing...thanks again...

Very cool piece Randy. I love this. I've always wanted to do more relief and now I have inspiration.

Thanks Mark!...
This piece is why Su Ranft, Sopie, Jerome and Adie are friends...
Kinda makes it extra meaningful for us.
I am going to keep trying to come up with all sorts of relief stuff...it's a lot easier to sell sometimes as well...super easy to mold myself as well.
later my friend

This is beautiful. I like the single bird in the branch and the simplicity.

thanks! Yeah, when Su (the owner of the original) decided on one bird I was a little bummed because I wanted to sculpt a few more characters, and then realized that she made the best choice. It's simpler, and says all it needs to say. Like I said, the bathroom it's in is so cool.

With stuff like your work in a bathroom I think it would look great to. bet her bathroom is nuts. Having a lot of animals would be amazing and fun to see you still make up for it in the detail.

Her husband was the late Joe Ranft. Voice of Heimlich the caterpillar in Pixar's A Bugs Life and Jacques the shrimp in Finding Nemo. He was head of storyboard at Pixar as well...
Thier house is beautiful...
His younger brother Jerome is a good friend and one of the lead design sculptors at Pixar. Between Jerome and Mark Newman (my mentors) I've got some amazing guidance.
check out Mark Newman's work if you haven't had a chance yet...he's amazing and puts me to shame. in a good way though...keeps me pushing to improve.
