Description Tuesday, May 7th
Sundown

What is man? The beast? The prey? The great negotiator for survival? As a man of science I have always successfully analyzed the situation to which I've been placed in. And yet the greater part of me-- the primal creature understands that there is little logic to my surroundings. Nor can much be found to explain them.

Seclusion is nothing new to me.

In my past life as well I was a recluse to society. Maintaining only shallow contact with my fellow man to fulfill the very basic social necessities that man requires. To say that I am invulnerable to loneliness would not be the right way to describe the situation, but rather, I had learned to cope with it after all these years. Like taking a tonic for a cough my methods alleviated the emotion, but does not completely cure it. I know that I am to blame for this isolation more than anyone else. My hunger for knowledge drown out my thirst for all of the things that made me human. Until finally when the last person close to me left I was more so an automaton. Working day and night. Merely existing in my laboratory, but hardly living. There is a lesson to all things I suppose. I refuse to believe that this island isn't one. To be the only human in this world makes me realize what is already gone. How lonely I really was. And that perhaps like the countless mice I had used in my own laboratory, perhaps I am just a science experiment to Maxwell as well.

I found an eye bone near the south side of the island eight days ago. I did not know what it would do. But still, I had taken it regardless. A new habit of mine I suppose; to pocket anything I find these days even if they may seem at first to have no actual use or value. Since then 'Chester', as I have come so to affectionately call him has not left my side since. I have never been one in fact to adore animals (creatures?) as most do, but in this case I have never felt so relieved even for this minuscule amount of company. Which fairs far better than that of the pig-men, whom so far merely have tolerated my presence, unless there is food to compromise with.

I do not know to what extent this creature feels. Or if Chester is even capable of feeling outside of the loyalty to the bone I carry with me. Still-- I care for him more than I should. Not just because he has cured my loneliness. But for the first time in years, he has made me human again, in a place where monsters lurk.

I. Love. This. Game!

Probably more than I should. But still-- I've adored it ever since it came out on Steam! It's a pretty simple premise, yet until you try it you never really understand how fulfilling it is. As for Chester, you can't help but love him.

The drawing style was inspired by If you're a big fan of Don't Starve then I would suggest hopping on over to their page quick to take a look.

Well, that's all I have for you right now.

I love your drawing, and the passage is so beautifully written! With what little we're given about Wilson's personality, you've nailed it! It really does feel like something he would think about Chester. ^^ Well done!

I still need to get this game when it goes on sale. It's been looking rather interesting from what I've seen of it, so I really want to try it out even if I'd be bad at it. I love teh art style for it though, and you did really good getting the gloominess of it in your art ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ranger-26 In reply to Stormsworder [2013-05-07 16:06:31 +0000 UTC]

Too bad I didn't post sooner, since when I purchased mine they gave me a copy of the game for me to give to a friend. I ended up giving it to my boyfriend but if I would've known I could've gifted you it.

At first the art style was actually what turned me off. Even though overall it has a beautiful design the Tim Burton-esque elements tend to turn me off. Still, after watching some gameplay of it I got it when it was on sale. I hope you'll get the opportunity at least to play it sometime soon.

Stormsworder In reply to Ranger-26 [2013-05-07 16:48:34 +0000 UTC]

Hey, it's good your boyfriend gets to have it to try it out

Hehe, yeah, I've been watching the LPer Markiplier work on it some, and it looks like an interesting survival challenge. Also has a rough learning curve from what I gather, but difficult games can be fun. Plus I enjoy sorta building up a home base and stuff... kinda like that whole style of game sorta. Thanks!
