Description
So going from the previous bit a of work ([link] ) I started going along that RTS line and came up with the main play able factions and stuff for them. The Flags I snagged from pictures across google.Alagaesia
Lore-
For a hundred years the mad King Galbatorix ruled over the lands of Alagaesia. Recently however he was overthrown and a new government has been established under High Queen Nasuada. Though peace has been restored the land is now somewhat fractured into several new territories as Nasuada begins to consolidate power. Not all approve of her new rule and some even seek her end.
Crunch-
Alagaesia has decent units if somewhat weaker than those of other factions. They are however more exotic in terms of weapons and equipment than most standard playable factions. They have decent spell casters but lack gun powder in any form. On the campaign map you are surrounded by mostly allies and a desert but be aware of the fickle loyalties of some of your allies and city rulers.
Best Unit- Nighthawks
Alliance (EK)
Lore-
The Alliance was once also known as the Alliance of Lordaeron when its leadership was centered in Lordaeron. However, the Alliance was forced to move the bulk of its forces to Kalimdor and to the southern Eastern Kingdoms continents of Khaz Modan and Azeroth after the plague of undeath ravaged the Kingdom of Lordaeron several years ago. Although the remaining living nations of Lordaeron are not as strong as they once were, they have pledged their loyalty to the Grand Alliance with the hopes of becoming strong once again. Over the course of the years new members and races have joined the Alliance furthering its united strength.
Crunch-
The Alliance (Eastern Kingdoms) is a good Faction for those less experinced with Total War and a good place to learn the tactics, gameplay mechanics, and stratedgies needed to win. Having most of its bases covered The Alliance (Eastern Kingdoms) only notable weak point is that they only get one Heavy cavalry unit, the Knights of Stormwind. They have little Light Cavalry meaning enemy artillery can be problematic. They're tougher than the Empire, but not by much and possese a wide array of mechanical units such as tanks, cannons, ballista, flying machines, and even the mighty Skybreaker Gunship. They are also pretty well situated with their central territories not being to far apart.
Best Unit- Knights of Stormwind
Alliance (K)
Lore-
The night elves have lived peacefully for centuries in the shadowy forests of northern Kalimdor until the events of the Third War when they allied with the survivors of Lordaeron and the Thrall's Horde at the behest of Medivh in order to defeat Archimonde at the Battle of Mount Hyjal. However the continuous deforesting actions of the orcs in the forests of Ashenvale have forced them to break away from the Horde and remain allied with the Alliance alone. The Draenei are refugees of the eredar race fleeing their corrupted brethren, seeking allies to fight against the Burning Legion. They lived on Draenor until the orcish onslaught, and fled from the Legion and the forces of Illidan Stormrage by stealing the Exodar, one of the satellites of Tempest Keep.
Crunch-
The Alliance (Kalimdor) is a step up in challange from the Alliance (Eastern Kingdoms). They have great Light infantry, Ranged units, and Casters but limited Heavy infantry and Cavalry. Night Elves make up the bulk of their forces supported by Draenei, Worgen, and limited Human troops. They have easily one of the most mobile infantry armies in the game and have a brutal volley but break apart like wet paper without proper support.
Best Unit- Justicars
Dwarves (O1)
Lore-
The Dwarves are an ancient and proud race, although not quite as old as the Elves. In the distant past they ruled a great empire spanning the whole range of the mighty Worlds Edge Mountains. Their empire fell to the invasions of Orcs, Goblins, Skaven and other malign races, and today what has remained of their once-interconnected fortress cities have become isolated and scattered, and the Dwarves themselves vastly reduced. Ever since these invasions, the Dwarf civilisation has remained threatened by total destruction as they fight a bitter never-ending war against these same enemies.
Crunch-
The Dwarves (Old World) is the polar opposite from the Alliance (Kalimdor). Most of their troops are Heavy infantry making a brutal defensive line and a crushing offensive strike. They lack cavalry but can produce and field an insane amount of Siege weaponry at half the cost of other factions. The Dwarves focus on a battle of attrition, smashing their enemies down under a devastating barage of Artillery and Heavy infantry. Don't fight in wood lands however or ground were Cavalry can easily manuver or you're in for a world of hurt. On the campaign map the biggest challenge you will face is that you are going to be out numbered and many of your territories will be pretty isolated.
Best Unit- Hammerers
Fire Nation
Lore-
For a hundred years the Fire Nation waged a ruthless war of expansion upon its neighbors. During this time the Fire Nation has prospered, entering an industrial revolution. The War however was at last brought to an end and Fire Lord Zuko took his fathers throne. Though he intends to heal the damages wrought by his home land upon the world fate may no be as kind as he hopes. Old wounds are slow to heal and some people who name themselves his subjects still call the colonies in the Earth Kingdom home. As sinister force begin to weave their webs the new Fire Lord may have to chose between what he wants to do, and what he needs to do.
Crunch-
Two words people. Fire Benders and Tanks. Never leave home without them. The Fire Nations industrial might is tempered by the fact that Zuko is trying to withdraw people and troops from colonies and occupied territories in the Earth Kingdom. With certian events coming a player will have to decide whether or not to continue the withdrawl, stand their ground, or throw caution to the winnds and just restart the hundred year war. Be wary of sedition and those who may try to userp your authority.
Best Unit- Fire Drakes
The Empire
Lore-
The Empire is the largest and most powerful nation of the Old World. It is located east of Bretonnia, south of Kislev and north of Tilea. The current Emperor is Karl Franz, who was elected and crowned in 2502 IC. The Empire was founded 2,500 years ago, by Sigmar Heldenhammer. At its founding, the traditional territories of the tribes unified by Sigmar were formalised as the imperial provinces. Following the passing of Sigmar, the system of Electors was established, with the provincial rulers entitled to elect a new Emperor from among themselves.
Crunch-
The Empire is likely the easiest faction to learn. Like on the Table Top they are a very well rounded army rarely suffering in anyone area in particular. They aren't the strongest faction but they definetly aren't the weakest. If you know what works best against what you can dominate with the Empire. That said you can't expect easy wins every time. Imperial troops lack serious specialization and thus can be outshone by more elite armies. On the Campaign map you do have to worry about chaos corruption and the loyalty of the Elector counts who rule your Provincial territories.
Best Unit- Reiksguard Knights
Equestria
Lore-
Equestria is a peacefull land of magical talking Ponies. For over a thousand years it has been ruled by the Demigoddess Princess Celestia, who has now been joined by her sister Princess Luna. Now however they are in a dangerous new world where the Ponies must relearn the ways of war they have forgotten after centuries of peace. If they cannot protect themselves they are doomed to fall. But in this land, friendship is magic.
Crunch-
Equestria is definatly an army you play if you want a real challange. Equestria has damned fine Light and Heavy cavalry and some of the cheapest light Artillery in the game but if you aren't carefull they'll get torn to pieces by enemy troops. Ponies need to soften the enemy up with Artillery and Magic before hitting the enemy with full force. A battle with Equestria is decided not in the front on front combat but in the charge. In campaign it may be better to avoid conflicts as much as possible. Winning by forging alliances and tricking your enemies into thinking you're stronger than you actually are is the name of the game.
Best Unit- Wonderbolts
Horde (EK)
Lore-
The Forsaken are nominally allied with the Horde but serve only themselves. They are much darker than their allies from Kalimdor, do not necessairly consider Thrall as their leader and certain members of their race do not care about honor, morality or even other races. Not all Forsaken are evil, but the many are, and other races definitely view them as such. A non-evil Forsaken must work hard to prove his neutral (or perhaps, good) intentions. Few good Forsaken exist, but many evil ones do, and their leadership is definitely up to nefarious ends. Blood elves despise most other races, but they are coming to accept that the Forsaken are different, or at least share the same goals. Most blood elves are not insane or evil - they just choose to fight fire with fire. They were suffering for lack of the Sunwell; they all needed -- and still need -- to feed on arcane energies, even though most of them aren't spellcasters. The most powerful blood elf spellcasters are insane, as the magic they wield is corrupting. The western Horde recognizes the blood elves as dangerous, volatile and ultimately destructive.
Crunch-
The Horde (Eastern Kingdoms) is a perfect faction for learning about special units and their abilities. A mix of Undead, Blood Elves, and some Goblins the Horde (Eastern Kingdoms) is a tactically rewarding army to play but still has the muscle needed to fall back on simple attrition. You have some of the best Casters in the whole game and the mighty Abominations to shatter enemy lines. Be aware that you have somewhat limited artillery options as well as few Gun Powder troops.
Best Unit- Abomination
Horde (K)
Lore-
The Horde, a faction led by off-worlders and composed of outsiders has survived these obstacles by making allies with few of the native races of Azeroth or even uneasy allies. Although its ideals, policies, and beliefs have been revised and membership has changed over time, it is the same Horde inherited by Thrall through Warchief Orgrim Doomhammer. However, since the mantle of Warchief was passed on to Garrosh Hellscream, the Horde's alliance with other races has began to suffer heavily due to Garrosh's warmongering.
Crunch-
The Horde (Kalimdor) is a total power house faction. You have some of the best heavy infantry in the world along with powerful siege engines. There is also the utterly face wrecking amount of armor and weapons upgrades you can get with almost all the Horde's units. Be aware that your cavalry is pretty restricted and your guys don't move that fast. Heavy armor is key to close the distance quickly to unleash a brutal charge.
Best Unit- Kor'kron Guard
Naggaroth
Lore-
The Dark Elves, who call themselves Druchii, are the arch-enemies of the High Elves. Expert corsairs and pirates they are the scourge of the seas responsible for countless raids. The Dark Elves were cast from their homeland of Ulthuan following a bitter civil war. They are now merciless raiders, dedicating their lives to the infliction of pain and misery of others. The Druchii, are united in their hatred of all other living things, ruled over by Malekith β the dreaded Witch King of Naggaroth.
Crunch-
The Dark Elves of Naggaroth are not the toughest or the strongest army out there, they don't have gun powder or many siege weapon options. They are however absolutly terrifying. Dark Elves win by breaking the enemy, making them run, and cutting them down. This is done by inspiring fear in the enemy and the hitting them with brutal flank charges, warriors can't fight if they are running away. Their magic isn't that bad either, though not as good as their High Elf Cousins.
Best Unit- War Hydra
Reunited Kingdom
Lore-
When Aragorn became King of Gondor at the end of the War of the Ring, he was also the descendant of the Kings of Arnor, and by right he was crowned King of both Arnor and Gondor and Reunified the Two Kingdoms, which had politically split long ago. Using the resources of the victorious Gondor, Aragorn, taking the royal name King Elessar, rebuilt Arnor in the North. With his reign, the Reunited Kingdom has expanded to retake all territories that had originally belonged to both Arnor and Gondor at their greatest extents. He is a kindly king, wise and powerful. Now however the world beyond is entering a period of great turmoil. Does the heir of Isildur have the strength to lead the men of the west into a new golden age?
Crunch-
Do you like armies were most of your troops are in gleaming plate armor? Do you like powerful economies and navies? Do you like having an impregnible fortress as your capitol city? Then say hello to the Reunited Kingdom! What they lack in magic, gun powder, and certian siege machines they make up for by being damned good at everything else. Excellent heavy cavalry, elite archers, powerfull heavy infantry, solid light infantry, you name it they have got it! The Reunited Kingdom is also pretty damned stable so as long as you don't be a total tyrant you rarely have to worry about trouble at home.
Best Unit- Fountain Guard
Thedas
Lore-
Thedas is a continent in the southern Hemisphere. The word "Thedas" originates from Tevinter, once referring to all lands beyond the Imperium and eventually, it came to encompass the entire continent. A native of Thedas is referred to as a Thedosian. The Chantry is the dominant religious organization across Thedas, whose philosophy is based upon the life and teachings of the prophet Andraste. The view of the Chantry on non-humans is that they need savingβthey have turned even further from the Maker's grace than humanity has. Elves were, and in some cases still are, pagan and dwarves do not worship any gods at all. The Chantry's goal is to spread the Chant of Light to all four corners of the world, that includes non-humans as well. Once all peoples have accepted the Chant and practice its teachings, supposedly the Maker will return to the world and return it to its previous Edenic state.
Crunch-
You want a challange? Do you like guys and gals in glittering mail, war dogs, powerful mages, deadly anti caster units, and awesome cavalry? Then Thedas is the faction for you! Thedas has some of the best offensive Casters in the world and great Heavy infantry. On the Campaign map you need to keep an eye on corruption levels in cities with Circles of Magi lest rebellion emerge. You don't have gun powder and you faction is a little disunified being various nation states viaying for power but if played right these guys are death.
Best Unit- Seekers of Truth
Ulthuan
Lore-
The High Elves, who call themselves Asur, are one of the major powers of the Warhammer world. Their homeland is the ring-shaped island of Ulthuan, located in the Great Ocean between the Old World and Naggaroth. They have fought against the spread of Chaos since it first appeared in the world, but their bitterest struggle is against their own kin, the Dark Elves. While not hostile to their parent civilisation, the Wood Elves are the descendants of High Elf colonists who declared their own independence, remaining in the Old World. Despite the glory of the High Elf civilisation their power is slowly fading, only to be replaced by the populous and vigorous race of man. The main reason for this development is a falling birth-rate due to unknown reasons.
Crunch-
Few questions first here folks. Do you like Winning? Do you like dominating in magic? Do you like badass dragons? Do you like watching enemy armies cry as a single unit of elite troops tears their entire line apart? Then you my friend need to play Ulthuan! The High Elves have some of the best special troops out there and the best casters in the game. They've got the largest and most powerful navy in the world to boot and a well fortified Sub continent/Island from which to utterly wreck peoples faces. Mind you they are by no means broken, they don't have the staying power to last long against most special choices, the strength to utterly waste your units in one round, or the numbers to instantly rule the world. Plus no gunpowder and weak siege units beyond the Eagle Claw.
Best Unit- Phoenix Guard
Warriors of Chaos
Lore-
The forces of Chaos would destroy the world just to watch it burn. They were barely turned back in their first coming by the combined might of the Elder Races, who were at the height of their powers, thrown back and contained in the North, the Chaos gods make their influence felt throughout the world. The most powerful of the factions, much of the Warhammer world is defined by the struggle against Chaos. The Lands claimed by the Tribes who have pledged to the 'True Gods' are vast, far larger than even the Empire, the people who inhabit these lands are tougher and more resilient than any other race of men, where other human civilizations revile the worship of Chaos and it's 'Gifts', these people have embraced it, from their ranks are the armies of chaos drawn and champions raised up.
Crunch-
Tired of fancy tactics and shining armor? Just want to charge in and slaughter people in the name of dark gods whose names make children cry? Then meet the Warriors of Chaos! They have one tactic and one tactic only, charge and kill everything. These guys are monsters on the battle field, almost all of their troops can wear plate armor and they have excellent casters. Plus they can quickly close the distance to start wrecking peoples days. Sadly they really suck on defense, try defending a fortress with these guys and watch them get wasted.
Best Unit- Chaos Knights
I own nothing.
