I imagine they'd most likely use their huge incisors to scruff-carry their cubs, rather than risk accidentally shanking them with their enormous sabers

Actually... yes, awkward side chews. Also, their front teeth, which are tiny in modern cats, were much bigger and could be used to pluck pieces of meat off.

Yup. But maybe not as much. There was a case where lions got equipped with fake sabers for a movie, and even they could eat with them.

I love seeing all kinds of different interpretations of prehistoric animals. Many of these artworks tend to depict predatory species as scary killers. Of course itβs great to see them hunting and killing their prey. But your painting is just as amazing and in no way less awe-inspiring!
