Description
Video : DOWNLOAD 136.77mbSorry for the big size. There were issues. It's like...19 minutes. X______X I couldn't shorten it and keep in the subtitles without skipping alot of the information portions. Hair on average takes me about 25-30 minutes unless it's REALLY long or curly or something, so I did it about as fast as I could without forsaking anything important.
Hope it helps some of you.
Youtube links will be up as soon as I can get a version small enough to upload there.

Β Thank you! I do still do this, yes, but I'm mostly over on tumblr these days. The file was too big for here so I had to upload it off site. It should be 100% safe to dl though. I'm also very cautious about web downloads. Do you mean tutorials? I don't yet, but I'm planning on making some. I just never seem to have the time. As for a tablet, yes, I use the wacom intuos draw: www.wacom.com/en/products/pen-β¦ Β I usually just use a cheap tablet. The expensive ones aren't really any better in my opinion, but wacom is the most reliable/compatible.

Thank you for the reply. This site never alerts me that I have a message. Just saw this now tonight. And yeah, I suspected it may have been too big but just wasn't sure. I appreciate your insight, suggestion and yeah the time is why I haven't tried anything lately. I purchased a cheap tablet but learning to draw on a tablet is probably not the right way to learn. I love the art on imvu when artists bring pictures to life. I find it magical and really want to learn but time is a factor and where to start for what I want to learn is hard to know.Β

Learning on a tablet is perfectly fine if you're not wanting to go into oil painting or pencil shading etc. It's the exact same principle as traditional drawing. Honestly in my opinion I'd prefer it for learning because you can easily erase mistakes and try again and again without going through a buttload of paper/eraser marks etc. There's really no "right way" to learn so honestly just have fun with it. The wonderful thing about art is that there is no right way to do any of it. Of course there are rules/guidelines when you get into things like realism (anatomy etc) but really making mistakes are the best part of art because you learn from them.
Time is a factor yeah, but if you approach it as something you enjoy doing vs something you 'have to learn' it's a lot easier. The second you focus your energy on just 'being better' is when it loses a lot of that fun factor and you start focusing on all your perceived mistakes. That's a big problem. If you're wondering where to start places like youtube are fantastic for beginners. Start at stick figures, simple shapes and work up. That's the best place to start because if you can do shapes and put them together you can basically put yourself in a mindset to draw anything because that's all art is. Shapes and then you refine them. A good exercise is to take a photo and just trace all the shapes you see. Just simple ones, no details. Do it over and over again on tons of different photos and sooner or later you start to see a pattern. Once those shapes stick in your mind try to put them together without using the reference. Always start at the bottom and work up in bits. It's just like language. You won't learn how to form complex sentences/conjugation before you even know basic words.

<3 You're welcome. And at the risk of sounding preachy (but you sound like you could use someone to cheer you on just now) Let me tell you something that I wish someone had told me when I was starting out like 20 years ago and hating everything I did. I was so sure I could never draw anything. I was bad at EVERYTHING. But one thing I've learned is that trying and failing is the point. You'll never get better at anything without making mistakes. When people learn how to talk or walk they don't get it right every time, but they just keep going until it's second nature. It's okay if you fail. It doesn't mean you're not cut out for it, it just means it hasn't clicked yet or a method that works for one person isn't the right method for you, but it doesn't mean you should stop. People have to learn their own way and in their own time. Give it time and don't give up. It took me 10 years to figure out hands and I'm still struggling with them. It took me almost that long to figure out eyes. Years to figure out hair.I don't know any artist who didn't fail at everything or who doesn't STILL think they're failing at everything. Trust me, you CAN do it. You can do anything in the world given enough time and effort. I know you can because I was there too. Just keep trying please. If not with my tutorial than with another or with a method of your own. But don't ever give up.

No problem. I'm glad you like it. I'm hoping soon I'll have a more in depth video walkthrough for it. There are no dumb questions. Yes. I almost exclusively use just the hard round default brush and the soft default brush. I have some hair detail brushes available in my gallery (I think they're for CS4 or higher though) but I most usually just use the defaults when I paint anything.Β
