Description As realistic as I can get anyway. XD I was messing around with a new technique and this is what I came up with. Results are much nicer than what I usually do. Sorry the pics are so small. I actually didn't realize how small I actually painted the example hair. X_X I'll do a quick video tutorial when I get the time.

SCRIBBLES! That's all it is. I'm almost done with the other part of the skin walkthrough as well.

Amazing, but it's not easy at all. xD
I find it really hard lol and my results are quite bad.
Maybe I'm just a noobie.

It takes some getting used to. Everything is hard at first, just keep trying.

Thanks, I will (as long as I'm not taken over by laziness).

Hi! So I'm a total beginner at digital art...

I tried to follow this tutorial but I had a question about the whole scribble thing. You said to do short scribbles zoomed in. But then I couldn't get past the problem of blending all the short scribbles in because there wouldn't be a singular line all the way down the hair - it would be made up of like 2 or 3 lines. Have I misunderstood / did that make any sense?

Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob :/

Hi. I couldn't really tell unless I see what it is you did, but from what you described it sounds kind of like your flow/opacity settings were off or you were pressing too hard assuming you're using a tablet. If you're using a mouse you have to set the opacity down lower as well as flow to get the same result. Inevitably there will be strands that don't blend, which is where the smudge tool comes in, or you can just paint over the section that doesn't blend.

I can't really tell exactly what's going wrongwithout seeing it. If you'd like some detailed help, please  go ahead and link me a pic of what's happening in my messages and I'll try and walk you through some things with a more in depth step by step.

It's fine. We were ALL noobs at one point right? No sense in not helping each other.

This is really simple and easy to follow, I will keep this in mind when I do my doodles and start doing some test in photoshop. I have to get used to using a tablet for things, so practice practice practice! Thanks for the awesome tutorials!

No problem. I figured while I have time and a faster computer I'd do the ones I kept promising. I'm so late at things.

Maybe that's the problem I have is I go Light to dark instead of dark to light.

I use a "scribble" effect bit it never looks that good too.

Oh yeah, I used to go light to dark too but somehow that never worked. When I saw that other artists kept doing dark to light I tried that and it was soooo much better. It takes awhile to get used to, but it's worth it.

Definitely, I'm trying to shade hair at the moment, I've been trying for the last 2 hours...So I might need to shade something else and come back to the hair.

It looks awful at the moment D:

Sorry you're having trouble. :/ What usually helps me is to look at macro shots of hair for awhile and just study it to  get a picture in my head of what exactly I'm trying to do.

Always happens when I don't draw for a while.

I want to try and change the style I shade, but it always turns out how I currently shade. Ha.

That's actually how I draw hair digitally but I never have as nice a looking result xD Maybe in a few years time!

Great tutorial, I love that you actually explain things as opposed to just posting pictures and brush settings, it's much easier to understand (:

Just keep at it. Time makes things better.

Ugh I hate tutorials that just show picture progression and no explanations. It creates more questions than answers, especially for beginners or people unfamiliar with certain methods. I try to make the steps easy, but I'm really not good at explaining things. I like making the videos better because you can see what I'm doing. I'm going to try and get the recording software installed on my laptop so I can make more tutorial videos.

I will (:

I know, they're not even tutorials they're just step by steps, which is fine, but they call them tutorials. And then some times the artists who post them either never respond to questions or get annoyed when they're asked :/

I think you're a lot better at explaining things than you think. I only started digital art this year and I don't understand a damn thing about it but I always understand your tutorials!

I did watch your video tutorial on how to colour greyscale images and it was really great, so more of those would be wonderful if you get the chance (:
