Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to my tutorial:

How To Make An Uke!

I'm sure that you're familiar with what an Uke is, right?

No?

Well how about an explanation!

"Uke" is a term that BL fans should be familiar with. To put it simply it is the "Submissive" one in the relationship, characterized by thier cuteness. "Seme," a term you will also see in this tutorial, is the "Dominant" one in the pair.

So how do you make your own Uke?

In Ten Easy Steps we will show you how, everything from thier personality to thier looks!

1.) The Hair.

An Uke's hair is a prominent feature, as it is in any manga or anime character. It is notorious for being soft, silken, fine, ect. ect. ect. It is commonly a lighter color. (Light browns or Blondes) I've chosen a dirty blonde here. More importantly, the style. An Uke's hair is messy, ruffled and overall adorable. It's typically about mid-length between the shoulder and the ears. Also, bangs are an attribute for increased amounts of cuteness.

2.) The Face and Skin.

An Uke will always have a pretty/cute/adorable face. That's it. To put it plainly, it's a Baby Face. Round or heart-shaped visages are practically a must.

Skin is almost always baby soft and free of any blemishes. Ever. At all. (Once again this is typical for any manga or anime character.) It's usually very light and fair, but for some reason still obtains that healthy glow. We will never know why. Just accept it as a mystery of life.

3.) The Blush.

Ukes are almost always blushing. When I say almost always, I mean ALMOST ALWAYS. Especially in the face of thier Seme. However, Super Uke Blush Mode can also be activated in the face of a Potential Seme, or in extreme embarassment... Or moderate embarassment... Or light embarassment... Or-

*ahem* Anyway, it depends on thier personalities (See step six.)

4.) The Mouth.

An Uke mouth is, like everything else about him, small and cute. (The author of this tutorial is currently desparate for synonyms for cute and will be consulting her thesaurus momentairly.) There's almost always an emphasis on the bottom lip, for Maximun Adorability.

5.) The Eyes.

Eyes are, as an unwritten rule, large and soulful. Often times described by thier semes as "Tearful orbs" (See "Crying" on step eight) or "Deep pools of beauty" and other such phrases. Most of the time they're a light color like most of the Uke's other attributes, synonymous to the angsty Seme's laments of "You are my light" and other such expressions.

6.) Personality

This is very important! Pay close attention. The Uke is a confusing character, as they can harness a multitude of personalities. Here are a few examples:

The Sporty Uke, characterized by thier athletic qualities.

The Reversible Uke, characterized by thier ability to switch from Uke to Seme (a rarer and rarer occurence in BL manga, but it's out there!)

The Perpetually Happy Uke, a bright and shining individual with a smile that could blind the sun. May or may not have OMGSUPERDUPER angsty past.

The classic Whiney and Unconditionally Loving Uke, which granted is not a very catchy title, whom is usually paired with the Cold And Uncaring Seme With An Angsty Past. (*coughSHUICHI*cough*) To say that they're wrapped around thier Seme's little finger is being KIND.

There's also the Combination Of All Of Them but I am not getting into that as it is too confusing.

Finally, there's the Uke With Catlike Qualities.

7.) Catlike Qualities?

You must be wondering- "What are you talking about? My Uke is human, not a catboy!" (Though some Ukes are catboys, but I'm not getting into that.) That's where you're wrong! You see, certain elements of Ukes, depending on their personalities, are catlike. Thier athleticism for the Sporty Ukes, thier sexiness for the Reversible Uke, their cuteness for the Perpetually Happy Uke, and thier willingness to dress in ridiculous outfits involving cat ears for the Whiney And Unconditionally Loving Uke.

Some of these Catlike qualities are common in thier speech (Ending or having the word "Nya!" in their sentences) or thier physical features. For this Uke, I've made it his mouth. However, this is entirely optional.

8.) Crying

Ohhh boy. The crying. Ukes cry. That's the short and short of it. It really depends on thier personalities, (see step Six) as different personas of Ukes cry in different degrees, but they all do.

For example, the Sporty Uke will cry if they lost a match in a game, which really isn't often.

The Reversible Uke's crying is in between a Seme and a Whiney And Unconditionally Loving Uke. Not a terrible lot, but it's there.

The Perpetually Happy Uke doesn't cry much, it's usually just fake tears if thier feelings get hurt. However if they have an OMGSUPERDUPER angsty past, the only time they cry is when said past is revealed.

The Whiney And Unconditionally Loving Uke cries... erm... would it be exaggerating to say "All the time"?

The Uke pictured above is most likely either the Perpetually Happy Uke or the Reversible Uke (or even somewhere in between) as he is not crying. Whether he has an angsty past or not has not been confirmed.

9.) Body type

Do I even have to really say it? Small. Cute. Adorable. (Slightly muscular if it's a Sporty Uke.) Occasionally unnaturally long legs. That's it.

10.) Clothing

An Uke mostly wears bright or light colored clothing, and most of the time wear just a little jewelry like a necklace or a bracelet or two. Thier outfits can range from ridiculous amounts of elaboration or can be just a baggy pair of pants and a shirt. (I went with the latter here as I am lazy.) However in some circumstances, your Uke will be put in some rather... unique outfits. It depends on the genre or maturity of what you're intending, but it can be a catboy ensemble, a french maid outfit, various dresses, a kimono, a skirt, a schoolgirl outfit (one of the most common) a wedding dress... You get the idea, but it really depends on the... erm... nature of thier Seme. *cough*

Well, on that slightly awkward note, this tutorial is officially over. Raspberry-Heaven is NOT responsible for any unwanted glomping, hugging, kissing, "Awww"ing or "Kyaaaaa!"ing that may occur in the face of your Uke. Because believe me, that WILL happen.
