The Worst Wish.

Part Two
“A Night at the movies.”
The Moss theatre was a popular place for fox kin to visit on a Friday night. It wasn’t the biggest theatre in the area but what it lacked compared to the size of a multiplex it made up for in charm. The theatre was connected to the market, and it was classy and quaint. People filed in past its old school foyer to the ticket booths then down a long set of stairs to the theatres below.
In one of the theatres sat Alanna and her friend Paula. Alanna was a thin fox girl with short cropped blonde hair. She wore a red t- shirt and violet shorts. Paula was in a simple peach coloured dress and wore her red hair up in a bun. Both carried snacks for the movie in their hands as they made their way to their seats.
“Does this floor feel sticky to you?” Alanna asked, testing her bare feet against it. “They should maybe clean it.”
“You always think there’s something wrong with the ground.” Paula returned. “It feels just fine to me.”
Alanna sighed. “Sometimes I wish it wasn’t so unfashionable to wear shoes. Being barefoot means people need to stick to greater cleaning standards.”
Paula looked at the bottom of her bare sole, noticing that it was still pretty clean. “I think this place is not bad if you ask me.”
“Fine.” Alanna commented. “I guess I am just a little nitpicky, I hate having anything on the soles of my feet.”
“This isn’t about that time you stepped in gum, is it?” Paula asked as she took her seat. “I am kinda sick about hearing about that.”
“It took days to completely get the stickiness off of the ball of my foot!” Alanna insisted. “Gum should be outlawed!”
“Just sit down already!” Paula insisted. “The movie is about to start! Well, the cola and car ads at least.”
Alanna sat and the pair settled in to see the several minutes of ads before the ads for the upcoming movies began. It seemed like every year they tried to cram more and more in front of a new release.
Eventually the movie started, it was an action film about transforming robots that fought some manner of planet. Paula was completely engrossed in the movie but Alanna found it hard to get invested. She finished her snacks and her drink and decided that she wanted to get another. She went to get up to get another but Paula shot her a dirty look. Alanna leaned back in her seat and crossed her arms.
Eventually the movie ended and the credits started to roll. The lights got brighter and a manager and a member of the staff stood in the corner ready to clean the theatre.
“So can we go now?” Alanna asked as she looked around and saw that despite the movie seemingly being over no one was even standing up.
“There’s supposed to be post credit scenes!” Paula snapped. “No one is dumb enough to leave before those!”
“I am.” Alanna commented, deciding she would get up and wait for Paula in the foyer. But as she shifted to turn she felt a strange resistance and her feet refused to follow. She paused for a second, trying to figure out what was going on. She tried again to move her feet but they again refused to move.
“Paula is the floor super sticky for you?” Alanna said as she leaned over to her friend. “I can’t really move my feet at all.”
“Shhhh!” Paula scolded. “There’s at least three more post credit scenes left.”
“But I’m stuck!” Alanna insisted. “Like legit I cant move stuck.”
“I don’t care of your feet have been eaten by wolves I am not missing this fourth end credit scene.” Paula said with a growl. “Just give me like ten more minutes then we will deal with your sticky floor phobia.”
Alanna sighed and let Paula get back to her post credit scene revelations. Everyone else was engrossed, almost mystified by what was happening on the screen.
Alanna decided to free herself and deal with her issues alone. She put her arms on the armrests and created as much leverage as she could. She tried to lift both feet up at once, desperate to get them off of the floor and away from whatever spilled stickiness had ensnared her feet. However, Alanna gasped as her soles stung and there was absolutely no give. The floor was not just sticky, it had locked her soles to the ground.
Once she had recovered from the shock she tried again, pulling at her bare heels with the same force. She was relieved to feel her heels come up, the glue stretching like melted rubber. However, her sense of elation and victory was short lived as the glue only stretched a few inches before locking like a dog at the end of his chain. Her heels began to shake before being smacked back to the floor with a snap.
She tried one heel after the other stretching one as far as she could before releasing it to snap back to the floor and trying the other. The glue would stretch, lock and snap back and no matter how many times or how fast she pulled her heels up they went back to the floor. She tried lifting up the front of her feet and through the toes and balls of her feet would come up it tightly locked her skin to the floor. She estimated she could only movie thirty percent of either foot at a time and it locked the other. She knew that was not how glue worked and there was something seriously wrong. She fought to shuffle her feet, to show any kind of movement or progress but it seemed that the glue would not let her feet move in any direction and was set to return them back to where they had gotten stuck.
As the last of the end credit scenes finally finished and Paula looked over to help Alanna had a different request other than help. “Paula, this is super serious…can you move your feet?”
“Of course I ca-“ Paula said but was cut off mid word as she obviously tried and realised she couldn’t. She had tried to lift a foot right up and like Alanna had met with a stinging sole with stretched skin and no movement. Paula looked down and started the process of exploring her restrictions just as Alanna had.
“Something is seriously wrong.” Alanna commented. “This stuff is like super strict!
“What the actual fuck is this?” Paula demanded. “It’s like industrial superglue!”
“This stuff is like no other glue I’ve ever heard of!” Alanna added. “It should not be able to restrict us like this!”
“What the hell!” A fox girl next to the pair stated as she stood up. “My feet are stuck to the floor!”
“I cant move!” Another woman said from two rows ahead. “I’m stuck to the spot!"
One by one people tried to get up and move and every single theatre patron discovered that their bare feet were inescapably linked to the floor.
“What is this fucking stuff???” A burly fox guy said as he jerked his entire body in a desperate attempt to move. “I can’t get out of it!”
Alanna looked around and her heart sank. She desperately looked for someone unstuck, someone to prove that this was just a prank or a freak occurrence and not something much more sinister. However, it seemed that every fox who had placed their feet to the floor of the movie theatre was now hopelessly stuck in place.
The theatre manager and the employe stood off to the side of the screen and the audience took notice. “Don’t just stand there! Were stuck in some kind of sticky shit…get us out!”
“Yeah, you can’t hold us here like this!” Another fox shouted out. “I demand you unlock our feet!”
“I need everyone to stay calm!” The manager expressed, trying to seem authoritative and calming. “There has been some kind of strange effect that has effected the floor in this place, and we are still trying to figure it out.”
“What is to figure out?” A woman snapped. “My whole party is stuck fast to the spot. What is this stuff and how does it come off?”
“We don’t know!” The employee next to the manager snapped. “We are trying to figure this out ourselves!”
“Well get over here and start trying to pry us loose.” Paula demanded. “We want our soles unstuck from this shit!”
“We can’t!” The employee shouted.
“Why the hell not?” Another fox snapped. “Why are you just standing there? Help us!”
“I am afraid we are stuck too.” The manager replied and to illustrate attempted to take a step forward. Even those in the back row could see the sudden intensity of her body trying to move but her feet not responding. Those in the front could clearly see the glue sticking to the soles of her feet. The employee next to her strained as well and neither could move one inch.
The realization that the people running the theater were also stuck made the crowd trapped in their seats go crazy in fear. People struggled and thrashed, fought and strained but not one foot would move, not one piece of glue would release that which it had trapped.
In the halls of the theatre a myriad of foxes lined up at the concession stand. A fox worker behind the counter put a large popcorn and a drink on the counter and the customer took it and tuned to walk away. However, turning was all she could do as neither of her feet would respond to her commands. One by one the fox patrons in the line looked down at the floor and found them securely fused with glue to the floor. The workers behind the counter looked on in shock and one by one looked down to find their own feet similarly fused on place. No one could budge or get out of where they were standing. They were all trapped permanently in line.
Foxes had been walking down the hall and immediately their feet stopped in their tracks. It was like one moment the glue was not there and one moment it was. Some would have fallen to the ground if their stuck feet had let them. Screams and shouts came from the theatres as all of the screens in the theatre were full of fox people realising they were stuck tight in glue.
Throughout the complex there was not one free foot, everyone who placed a foot to the ground in the second or two the glue materialized was now inescapably trapped in place. Foxes were stuck on the stairs, glued into the elevators, trapped all throughout the place and no one could be free.
The fox people in the ticket booth were imprisoned in it, the customers buying tickets were also stuck in line. They had no way of knowing how far out the effect was going but all the foxes they could see from the front window were bending down and clutching desperately at their legs.
The movie theatre was doomed, cursed by magic glue and there was not one free person in an part of the place. The movie theatre was now a prison and until someone got to the bottom of it there was no chance of escape.
