So tired of explaining this, I really cringe when people use terms like "scientifically proven", or "but it's not 100% proven!" - such ignorance, it's baffling.Related content

Wrong problem space. "Scientifically proven" is nearly always either a marketing statement or a tool of polemic. Two fields that are notoriously uninterested in truth. "but it's not 100% proven" drives me nuts. Its usually used by scumbags pushing their own interests at the expense of every one else. But "scientific proof" is a perfectly fine term, it just happens to entail a degree of uncertainty (error bars, confidence levels). A fair number of journalists I've talked to understand this. They just ignore it because it gets in the way of a good story. Given that a lot of people get their world view through this media filter what chance do they have?

Science is the method by which we question. Nothing more.
However, a world without questions is a world without life.
I love science, I love reading about new discoveries. There is nothing that can compare to finding out about some of the most recent developments to put to mind the sense of wonder and amazement. Yes, science is not 100%.. it's not even 90%...but it's the best we have, and so far, I would think it's done fairly well for itself, and for us.
There's nothing wrong with not knowing the answer...the problem is in not even trying to find an answer.

Another great one. I've never seen this quote itself, but I too find myself repeating the same sentiment, just for it to fall, once again, on deaf ears.
