thanks very much graham. i have a series of music videos in mind based on these alien creatures. although this type of animation is a lot of hard work for one person, so unfortunately progress does seem slow at times.

wow these are quite bizarre and surreal.  I especially like the colors and their movement along the perceived ground.    The darkness that obscures the view momentarily is a nice touch as well.  I don't understand the objects that flutter around now and then... it reminds me of an underwater alien world of some kind. I find myself wanting to draw back in hope of identifying just what the hell is going on here hehehe.  Very cool psy art, my friend. cheers!

cool, i'm really glad you're enjoying these my friend. the "underwater alien world" is the atmosphere i was trying to create.

next in this series will be animating the fractal and rendering from different camera angles, although that is a lot of work, so won't be for a while. in the mean time i'm working on some less labor intensive animations.

here is the next video in this series, it's the same as this one but without the large tentacle creature, so has more of an open space feel to it.

Very dramatic.  Here the forms stand out much better than usual against a contrasting background.  That may not be what you want, because it removes some of the mystery.

hi golem, thanks for the feedback. and although i was aware, as i was making them, of the more contrasting lighting and materials used in this video, i hadn't thought of the mysterious effect you mention. i doubt i'll change this particular work but i will keep that in mind for other videos.

would you agree my liquid metal ones look more abstract and mysterious?

The "mystery" effect I referred to stemmed from the difficulty of separating the objects from the background perceptually.  Because of that, though I could see that something was going on that had a sense of materiality about it, I couldn't discern how that feeling was achieved.   When the objects can be seen as separate objects, the animation is not quite as dumbfounding,  but still neither the objects nor the background behave like any real object I've ever seen.   They appear to be driven by some continuously variable functions of time,  but otherwise I can't say much.   The objects maintain their identities,  but wouldn't be mistaken for real sea creatures.

As an aside, all this brings to mind something I once came across, a weird collection of phenomena grouped under the rubric of "cymatics".   You could search YouTube for videos about that.   You might or might not get some ideas from it.  The phenomena are real and inanimate, I'm pretty sure, but might almost be mistaken for something living, or else computer animations.

understood and interesting. i did a google image search of cymatics and they very cool, some even look like my backgrounds, so i might well be inspired by them. thanks for the suggestion.

Not sure what you mean by the liquid metal ones.  Point me to one?

golem, this one in the linked page is quite old but you should be able to see what i'm referring to.

Wow, I had missed that one.  It's really beautiful, spectacular etc.   And the distinction between objects and background is quite clear most of the time.   Thanks

you're welcome golem, glad you enjoyed that old one. i will be updating it when i have time with the new rigging, which hopefully wouldn't take much work.
