Description editing software used:

apophysis, ultra fractal, fraxplorer, paint.net, winmorph, blender.

credits:

a collaboration between myself and my friend thelma, here's her pages:

here is a link to the color cycle version: fav.me/d7gz6f3

how to enable looping of videos on da:

right mouse click on the full screen video and a popup menu gives the option.

technically, this is how my video clips are intended to be viewed, as playing them just once through is not nearly as effective, or powerful. since the hypnotic effect relies on many repetitions. be warned though. you might lose track of time or experience other side effects.

cool, thanks very much thelma. and have you seen the color cycling version yet? ...that's my personal favorite although it is less subtle, he he.

also since there was nearly 500 unique frames in the project, i'm sure you could find some interesting stills out of those that you could upload to your gallery and sell as prints if you wished. i sent you a note with links to the hd versions, and if you need any help extracting/saving the stills just ask.

I've probably seen it, though I've seen so many devs now I think I'm going cross-eyed haha I still have a few thousand to catch up on

Okay, that's great, many thanks my friend

he he, understood thelma. and you have seen it, it's the "01 c" version, which you commented on after this one.

and you're very welcome. i loved working with your fractal renders.

cool, thanks for the feedback.

thelma, the fractal artist who provided the still renders for me to animate, said she sees a butterfly near the beginning of the video.

thanks very much.

and you might be interested to hear i'm currently working on a color cycle version of the above. hopefully that will be finished later today.

The technical details of this way beyond me, but work is utterly amazing.

thanks very much, and i'm not sure if other artists have used 2d morphing editors on fractals before? but the tech is similar to what i used on this recent facial morph.

fav.me/d7g92xw

basically two or more still images are faded together, as parts of the images are dragged towards each other, so in the case of a facial morph, the eyes of person "a" are dragged into position to align with eyes of person "b"

hope that helps.

I like this a lot.Β Β  But I have the impression there are occasional fades between unrelated fractals. (Please correct me if I'm wrong. )Β Β  I'd be more impressed if somehow the fractal could morph from one fractal to another by a continuous variation of parameters.

thanks golem, and you are correct about the fading/morphing.

technically it's just a series of symmetrical abstract bezier curves that distort/warp what ever pixels are visible at the time. so the same project file can then have completely different key frame (original) images loaded into it, which is one of the reasons i didn't trace around the contours of these key frames like we would traditionally do with a facial morph.

hope all that makes sense?

to clarify, the animationΒ hereΒ was done entirely in winmorph (a 12 year old, some what powerful, but very buggy 2d morphing editor) and then video edited in blender's vse. so unlike some fractal animations that update the params over time, i started with 4 finished still bitmap images that thelma had rendered and set them as the key frames for the morphing project.

I see.Β  Well, it's still a very beautiful effect.Β  Congrats.Β  I can't really criticize until I get at least one of my grandiose visions off the ground...

rattyredemption In reply to golem1 [2014-05-03 19:52:36 +0000 UTC]

thanks very much golem.

and he he, this was a steep learning curve to put all this together. although it shouldn't really have been, as i was originally using these types of editors nearly 25 years ago. so again i underestimated how much work would be involved with learning the "modern" and free versions. several crashes and rebuilds later and i had the psy morph working as intended, and as i said previously i can reuse the project files, yay.

speaking of which, there is another fractal artist that is interested in letting me use his still renders with this project, so once i've shown him the latest versions in private, hopefully he'll give the go ahead to show you guys.

and if you haven't seen it yet, i highly recommend checking out the color cycling version, which i've been spamming this page with he he.
