Description
Somewhere on DA I saw a guy who once in a while went back to a favorite photo of his and retouched it according to his current taste and skill. Just to see if he’d make progress since last time. I thought that was a fabulous idea. Funny how a photo is not only a frosen moment in time, its also a frozen example of the style you had in that particular period. Lately I’ve been into muting the colors and light, sort of making the photos appear as visions so dark, you were lucky to catch a glimpse of it before it was swallowed by pitch black eternal night.Ever since submitting “splash” it’s been the photo I’ve received the friendliest notes/mails about. Since it has never been on the frontpage, all the 163 people who has

It reminds me of a mermaid...but in a much darker sense. It seems almost sepia. If it weren't digital, I would say you used gold in developing, but since it is digital, how exactly did you get the background to show up like that? Is it a backdrop or something?
I'm very curious to find out now. Good shot. I wish my action shots came out like this.

Hi and thanks for your comment
Making the background appear like this was in fact very simple. Since the sky was clear on the original b&w photo, all I had to do was blend in a blurred layer of a dirty wall (using blending method 'softlight'). The tone was made by a homemade 4 color gradientmap (black, brown, green and yellow, which work just like if you converted the image to quadrotone). That part of the work was simple and took no time at all. I used much more time in emphazising (sp?) the light on her face and breast, and the reflected patches of light on her back, and the shadows on the water.

that's all i can say....you've somehow captured the spirit of artistical beauty....the pureness of the waters...the blank canvass of a body that's calling to be painted on....i commend your art and your talented eye.....thank you for sharing what you bring to the world

But well done on getting to the waterscapes front page .
