Marcus was created by Dr. Mark Desmond using his own DNA and stolen DNA from Dr. Amanda Spence and Martian Manhunter. After the success of Project Kr Dr. Desmond was ordered to create a “backup” weapon by Luthor should something happen to Superboy. Desmond was also ordered to keep the project under wraps even from other Cadmus staff. Marcus was given an education via telepathy from Gnomes.

Aqualad, Robin, and Kid Flash discovered Project Stratagem alongside Project Kr after Robin hacked the terminal but before they could get any information Guardian arrived and the three fled. Since Project Kr was closer the group decided to start there, unfortunately after escaping the pods Desmond placed them in and being chased by several Genomorphs the group were unable to get to Project Stratagem.

During the fight with the Genomorphs and Desmond after he takes the blockbuster formula the power to Marcus’s pod shut down, Marcus wandered the halls for a few hours before being found by Guardian and Dr. Spence. Unsure of what to do Guardian and Dr. Spence offered Marcus shelter at Cadmus while Dr. Spence attempted to process everything she had learned after Blockbuster was arrested.

While at Cadmus Lex uses the programing placed in Marcus’s head to have him act as his bodyguard when meeting with Superboy, even having him assist Conner in his search for another super clone along with the missing Genomorphs and again when meeting at Santa Prisca. Seeing Superboy stand up to Lex Marcus starts to question his position. He was originally happy to serve Luthor even when the programs were used on him but after the events at Santa Prisca he wonders if what he was doing was the right thing.

During the time skip between season 1 and season 2 he contacted Superboy and explained that he not only wanted the Cadmus programming removed but that he wanted to join the Team. Conner was hesitant but after talking with Nightwing and having his mind scanned by Miss Martian they agreed. Marcus remained on the Team until Wally’s sacrifice. After leaving the Team Marcus spent a year traveling and debating on whether he was meant to be a hero or retire as he couldn’t shake the feeling that his Cadmus programming was not completely gone. He eventually decides to rejoin the Team but not before having a long conversation with Miss Martian and the rest of the senior members of the Team.

While both men sought after the affection of Tuppence when Jr. learned that she and Marcus had started dating he was angry that his best friend had gotten the girl but respected their relationship.

Demeter Annella King - Marcus and Demeter started things off on the wrong foot starting out as rivals. When Demeter found out that Marcus was a reformed villain who had joined the team she wasn't thrilled, believing that Marcus could be a spy and became even less thrilled when he became a mentor of sorts to her. After several missions and sharing stories about their lives the two became best friends.

Suberboy - Similar to Demeter Suberboy and Marcus started out as rivals. Trying to convince his Genomorph brother that he could choose his own path didn't work right away. Marcus did eventually contact Superboy and asked for his help as he now wanted to leave Cadmus and The Light after working for them for several years. When the Genomorphs were freed from Cadmus Marcus helped libarate them using it as his own means of liberation as well.

Tuppence Terror - Marcus and Tuppence met in Belle Reve Penitentiary. The relationship between the two started off in an unusual manner. Tuppence was annoyed by Marcus’s attempts to befriend her and much like Icicle Jr shot him down when he attempted to flirt with her. Marcus eventually began to ignore her which frustrated Tuppence as she was now missing the conversations they had as well as the attention he gave her. Tuppence would eventually admit to herself that she had feelings for Marcus after seeing him get into a fight with some of the other inmates and hearing through others that he attacked Warden Strange. The two eventually become a couple at the end of season 1. As of season 3 they have broken up and though they won't admit it both still have feelings for each other.

Kaldur (Crush - season 1 & 2) - Marcus and Kaldur officially start dating a few months before the start of season 3. Things start of fine in the beginning until someone gets a picture of the two together and posts it online. While this didn't initially bother either of them they soon found it difficult to go out in public together since fans would crowd around them asking for pictures and other things. It was also difficult for them to spend time alone together with Kaldur leading the League and Marcus filming Space Trek 3016 with Garfield. Eventually they both agreed to end things and remain friends until they could figure out a way to make things work. The relationship was not long but they did manage to make some fond memories in the brief time they were together.

Troia - These two start dating some time after season 3. Having become friends while Troia was still on the Team. Both Troia and Marcus mentored Demeter at one time and they would often get together to compare note on how she was doing. After the relationship with Kaldur ended M'gann attempted to set Marcus up with a few of her friends but it didn't work out. Eventually Marcus asked Troia out after admitting that he had feeling for her for some time. She expressed that she had feeling for him as well and agreed to a date. They are currently a couple.
