Description
One of the things that I like best about the Rebels-era AT-AT walkers is their tail guns. That seems like a nice feature to have, guarding the rear flanks of these behemoth vehicles. This unique feature also makes it clear that these AT-AT's aren't just a "stylized interpretation" of the "real" AT-AT's that appear in Episode 5 and 6. Instead, this walker it a distinctly different variant. I wish there was an official designation to help us differentiate between these two designs. Wookieepedia refers to this one as a "developmental" AT-AT, but now that it has appeared in several episodes it seems clear that there are more than a few of them in service, so apparently we aren't talking about a rare prototype here. Anyway, like most of the designs on Rebels, Filoni and his crew did a great job bringing this cool design to the screen.Related content

I personally refer to these as "AT-AT Mark 1"/"AT-AT Mk-1".

An excellent suggestion! I've been thinking the same thing. As of this moment, I shall refer to them precisely as you suggest!
