Description

In honor of the opening of Disney’s fabulous new “Galaxy’s Edge” attraction at Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu, here are a few fanart images of the new TIE Echelon.

These fanart images were created based on an image of the TIE Echelon as it appeared in Issue #1 of the “Galaxy’s Edge” comic book miniseries.

Since there isn’t much information on the Echelon at this point, the description below is somewhat speculative in nature:

The TIE Echelon transport is the latest TIE variant produced by Seinar-Jaemus Fleet Systems.  The TIE Echelon offers the utility of a shuttle but with superior speed, firepower, maneuverability, and survivability.  Commonly used by armed forces of the First Order, the Echelon has been confirmed to be deployed by the 709th Red Fury Legion.  While it does not carry as many troops as the standard Stormtrooper Transport (as seen in Episode 7, The Force Awakens), the TIE Echelon Transport is a capable and flexible means of forward deploying small squads of troops into contested territories such as Batuu.

The ship shown here was stolen from the Red Fury Legion by Captain Synn and his famous Knights of Mandalore.  It is an example of the XJB advanced variant, which is an upgraded model equipped with enhanced top secret capabilities.  There are a number of subtle visual differences between this model and the more commonly found standard model.

Very nice, as always. I was wondering... do you think you could do one of these schematics for the TIE/HU Hunter? did an outstanding commission for me last year based on the original design from Rogue Squadron III if you need a reference:

This looks and sounds like something that would also transport high-priority cargo and personnel, in addition to it's originally assigned function.

I think that you are exactly right!  As it is seen in Disney's interactive theme park adventure, this craft is used to transport Kylo Ren, so I think that confirms your theory!

As I understand it, this design was originally intended to appear in Episode 9.  But the director has changed since that plan was originally conceived.  So, while some people are still hoping that it makes an appearance in the next movie, many are skeptical that this will really happen.  I guess we will have to wait and see!

when I first saw this, I thought it was just to big to be a star fighter.

Yeah, even though it is designated as a "TIE," I think it is more of a shuttle or landing craft than a fighter.

This looks amazing! Your models are fantastic first off, but I am curious, would you be able to model this with the regular First Order colors (black chassis and white solar panels)? If not that's okay too, I'm just very curious how that would look. Still wondering why they chose to use the Empire's colors...

Thanks so much for your kind comments!

I suppose it would be possible for me to reverse the color scheme (but it would be a fair amount of work.)  I'll keep your suggestion in mind.  (It might look pretty cool!)

It is very interesting that the First Order hasn't really been consistent with TIE coloration in the new trilogy.  At first, (in The Force Awakens) they were pretty consistent.  The TIE/fo and TIE/sf were both black with white solar panels, and Kylo Ren's Upsilon-class shuttle also had a black fuselage.  But then in The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer seems to be dark gray (not quite black) and it's solar panels are jet black (much like old Imperial-era TIE's).  Then in Star Wars Resistance, we see Vonreg's TIE Interceptor which has a red body with black (and gray) solar panels.  Then this TIE Echelon appears with a pretty traditional Imperial-era paint scheme (light gray with black solar panels.)  At this point, it's pretty much all over the map.  I'm not really complaining.  I kind of like all that variety.  But it does sort of beg the question, "Why are all these ships all so different?"

Hey guy I love your art!!! I can make you a request? I would be pleased if you create a fan art of the resistance capital ships, the Erevana, the ships of the pirates of SW:Resistance and the Aces ships
