Thanks so much for your interest.Β That is a very interesting idea.Β That could be pretty cool!Β Among other things, I think I might shorten the wings slightly and add a tail gun.Β I believe that the U-Wing makes at least a cameo appearance in upcoming The Rise of Skywalker.Β So maybe (like the Y-Wing and the B-Wing) we will get to see a newly updated "Resistance-version" of the U-Wing in the new movie.Β I guess I will wait to see if there is a new official next-gen U-Wing before I try coming up with my own version.Β Thanks for the interesting comment!Β Β Β

Oh, yes, that's an excellent idea.Β Part of the vision for the U-Wing was that it should look like it belonged in the same world as the X-Wing, so continuing this parallel with the split engines makes perfect sense!Β Β

Yeah, I love this ship too!Β I think they just gave us that little tidbit of information (about there only being a few U-Wings in service) as an excuse to help explain why we didn't see any U-Wings in Episodes 4, 5, and 6.Β So let's just agree that when they say "a few" they actually mean, . . . like, . . . somewhere around, . . . 987.Β Besides, who's to say they didn't re-introduce newer variants at a later date, . . . say, . . . closer to Poe Dameron's time?Β Β Β

It's primarily a landing craft so no real use against the Death Star unless you are landing commandos.
Empire I would love to have seen a few in the battle of Hoth plus evacuation.
Jedi they were sneaking in with a stolen shuttle being followed by U-wings might have been a give-a-way
One can hope they have a new version maybe we will see one in Resistance?
