Description Some things just can't be unseen. Tintin is realising that here, I think. Β
The dog is per usual my neighbour's dog. Tintin is not a fan of the neighbour or the dog. He's a shy kitty.

It's always nice to get a photo of Tintin among something green. He's so orange so he stands out very brightly. I like that.

He can always let Oliver handle the dog.
Oliver can stare down the dog!
The neighbour once told me that Oliver even comes into his garden just to staaaaare at the dog for a while. Β

He's not so brave against other cats, quite the opposite, but apparently dogs and badgers (maybe the fox too?) is no match for him. He just stares them down.

Not anything worse than what you do to the tree with your claws.
I've always been curious, is where you live a safe place for cats to roam? Or do you just make sure and watch them while they explore?
We have predators here that'd snatch our cats up if we let them outside unsupervised.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RavenMontoya In reply to Kannarith [2017-07-15 15:16:58 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. And he and the other cats like to mark their territory by peeing on trees as well, so he really shouldn't look so shocked. Maybe it's because the dog was peeing on a tree Tintin considers to be his though.

The cats are free to go in and out as they please. (As long as I'm around to open the door for them because I don't have a catdoor. Dead things would make it indoors if I had.)
I live out in the country side so I think it's a safe environment. The only predator I know of in Sweden that are known for sometimes snatching up cats and eating them are eagles - but there are no eagles where I live.

There are supposedly lynx in the forest, but they are extremely shy. I've never managed to see one and I've never heard of one taking a house cat so they don't really worry me.
I have plenty of foxes and badges though. They used to worry me a little, but nowadays the badgers are here so often while the cats sits just a few meters away from them (ignoring them) so they all seem to know each other and don't bother each other.
There's very little traffic that goes by my house. Otherwise that's the main thing I worry about: People and cars. And, actually, dogs. One of my old cats nearly had his tail ripped off by an unleashed dog so... All in all: Humans and their "belongings" tend to be the worst threat. Β

I have argued with one of my speeding neighbour for years, but he has slowed down considerably when driving by my house.
Finally started to happen when his two kids nagged him into getting two kittens and after that... Well... He must have realised that cat lives matter too.
The only problem left is an unneutered male cat that comes around a few times a year to beat up my boys. Tracking down an owner has proved impossible so I don't know if he actually has one or if he's just roaming free and steals food where he can get it. He should be getting old by now though. So I sort of (quite horribly) wish he'll die from old age and a hard life soon. Then everything would be ideal.

Kannarith In reply to RavenMontoya [2017-07-15 16:18:55 +0000 UTC]

Haha that's probably it!
I hope the cats don't 'mark' indoors though.

Ah, that's good. I'm sure you take good care of your pets, but I just can't help getting worried when someone lets their cats outside (we used to know this one person who didn't fix her cats, but she didn't end up with a hoard of cats because she let the kittens outside and they'd get picked off by predators. ;; Ugh, I hate her).

Lynxes! That's adorable. We have bobcats around here. The only time I'd seen one though was when my sister brought it home after someone hit it with their car.
Cats can hold their own pretty well, the problem lies when they're scared. My brother's dog used to chase our cats around, but now the cats are the ones chasing the dog! As long as they aren't afraid cats can be pretty scary. cx
Oh tell me about it. I get tired of careless, heartless people not taking better care. Why, someone just recently got their arm bit very badly by a dog, and the owners didn’t seem to want to take responsibility for their animal! They knew the dog didn't like people but they kept his leash slacked so it didn't matter in the end.

Good. I'm glad his kids got through to him. Speeding doesn't save you much time, so why put others and yourself at risk? I really wish people would think about the consequences of their actions.
Aww, that's sad! I hope the fights aren't too bad. ; ;
He's probably a stray. Even around here with tons of predators there's still stray cats everyone.
There's actually a black, white, and orange one that keep giving us small heart attacks because we mistake them for our cats.
I honestly don't blame you. My grandmother keeps feeding strays and they'd get pregnant and only keep adding to the problem (not to mention all the poor kittens that get killed). I kept hoping that she'd either wise up and get them fixed, or that the two females she fed would just die.
I know it's horrible but two cats dying is better than dozens!

All of your cats look so pretty, I wish I had that many cats. I've had 2 fluff balls for most of my life but I just want a few more.

Thank you!
Having four cats is not that much extra work from having two, actually. Or so I think, at least. Hard to explain why, but besides them eating twice as much, there really isn't much more to it.
Unless it's raining outside and all four of them want to come indoors at the same time and I suddenly have 16 dirty paws to wipe before they make muddy paw prints all over the house.

Mine want to see outside but the moment I take them out on a quiet day with a harness and pet them and provide a blanket to hide under they just stay under the blanket. Cats will forever be a delightful mystery

RavenMontoya In reply to RandomGypsyCat [2017-07-15 17:20:03 +0000 UTC]

Nah, it's only natural for indoor cats to be nervous outdoors, if they've never been out much. There's just sooooo much to see and smell and hear for them. The impressions might get a bit too much for them since they have very sharp senses and then they just want to hide.
In my experience - if you want to allow your cat to go out and feel comfortable outdoors you should let it do so as soon as possible as a kitten so it learns to handle all the things that are outside.

They went outside as kittens I think its the facts cars pass by our house a lot and its pretty loud. Thanks for the advice, I'll just leave them to do their window watching!

Yeah my dog doesn't like them either, people dont really slow down in my small neighborhood. Thats why our cats became indoor furballs

I had to put up warning road signs with cats on to make people slow down a little. Works on some people, but not all.

Thats a good idea, the outdoor cats in my neighborhood know well enough to stay off the road and stick to one side of the street thank goodness.
