Description Hel is one half dead sexy; the other half... well, dead. She's cursed to look undead on half of her body, while being remarkably beautiful on her good side. Considering the Shinto underworld goddess Izanami shares a similar fate (must be a goddess of the dead thing), I wanted to differentiate visually between them as much as possible. I have my Izanami showing her curse, as that seems to be her nature to be fearsome. Hel, on the other hand, is gentle and kind, and seemingly more sane so I wanted to portray her in a more sophisticated manner. I've got her with a Phantom of the Opera style mask (along with her hair), and heavier clothing covering up the ruined side of her body, while having a skimpier aspect for her 'living' side. I also wanted her to have a shout out to her siblings with the design of her scythe.

Queen Hel, ruler of the realm of the Norse dead in Niflheim, in her own land of Helheim. A daughter of Loki and Angrboda, she was kidnapped along with her siblings Fenrir and Jormungand when the norn, Skuld, told the Aesir that Loki's children would one day rise up against them. Fenrir was bound by the magickal rope, Gleipnir, as she was foretold to one day devour Odin. Jormungand was banished to the sea as he was supposed to one day slay Thor. Hel was sent to the underworld... just by basis of association with the other two? Seriously, it seems she was banished just so the Aesir could be extra dicks to Loki's family, I suppose, since she wasn't "foretold" to do anything to the Aesir from what I can tell. Neither did she ever really do anything bad in her known history. Generally, Hel's a good underworld ruler known to be pretty chill with her subjects unless they give her reason not to be. One of her household in the underworld, the hound Garm, is supposed to fight on her behalf during Ragnarok. After Ragnarok, it's even said that she'll return Hod and Balder to the Aesir.
