You can see a gold version of it if you check out the newest piece in my gallery, 'the sun sometimes.' Glad you enjoy! This piece is getting old now but I still like it.

oOoOoOooOOoo
Why did we have to run into that damn fool? Why, in all the myriad shitholes a person can get lost, beat the past into silent submission and plough on, did he have to be there?
Why did he have to recognize me?
Questions, my former master used to say, are the beginning of knowledge. Personally I say that's a load of crap. They're a headache that just begs for trouble.
Crap.
Crap!
I'm the fool. Oh, yesβ¦I am, most definitely. What else do you call someone who thought he'd made peace with the past, forged a new life and yet β¦ Yet, that damned old Knight made a fool out of me, didn't he? Showed me that my certainties were built on shifting sand just by handing me his belt.
I can't believe I took it! What the hell was I thinking?
And why the hell am I standing here in the rain, the belt of a Jedi Knight once again a solid weight, embracing me? My hand itches to hold that lightsabre. To feel the perfect balance, the smooth, cool metal. To hear the sizzling throb of energy and know that it still answers my call. Oh, I'm rusty, doubtless, but 'sabre was always my best subject. If I unfocus my gaze, stare into the timelessness that is the Force, I can feel the movements. Feel the dance.
I feel it as plainly as I feel the rain splashing on my skin, sliding down, sending frissions along my nerves.
I thought I had come so far. Moved away from my former life.
It appears I've only come full-circle and the past is now squarely where I left it, waiting for an answer: Will you or won't you?

THIS is my favourite version. I like the band of dark above and below that, imho, represents where he is in this point of his life. He's at center but not centered; life is off a bit and he's not where it wants him. A bit unsettled after that encounter, back to the questions that plagued him. Not as content as he had thought.
His hair looks faboo! MUCH , siberoo! In my book this is probably the best work you've done in fanart (that and the first ocean one of X).

Well crap! *whacks dA* It ate my comment!
*HUFF*
The only thing I see is the rain that is falling only on him. The rest looks exactly as I see him in that scene. He looks...broken but not beat, not done, not yet. In between.
Whatever that scene is. My ears are open (though plugged, damn cold)...and listening.
and don't make me come over there and tap your nose, sibling.....
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough

dA obviously thought your comment was a cookie - pretty dang rude, dA!! *HUFF*
I did notice that, about the rain.. mentioned it last night, did I not? Luckily for me, it's raining out, and so I'm staring intently out the window, watching the drops fall.. thin, blurry lines in the distance... thicker, broken lines with visible drops up close...
The scene is just nibbling right around the edges of your stuffed-up brain, isn't it? If I get any inspiration, I'll let you know.. you're hearing it better than me! Down.. but not out. Worn down 'til only sheer determination - fierce will - is keeping him on his feet, but whatever the reason.. still here.

Hey! Stop being so damn hard on your artistic skills, or I might have to stop ogling him for a second to reprimand you. Which I don't want to do. Mmmmm....
And I fail to see how anyone, regardless of how far their head was stuck up their own nether regions, could mistake this for "a very young yoda" That's just special.
Sooo... are we going to see/hear more about this positively dashing young fellow?
π: 0 β©: 1
razimo In reply to DJ-Smexy [2008-06-02 23:20:32 +0000 UTC]
........ what if I like to be reprimanded? I'm strange like that, you know...
As for anyone mistaking him for a very young Yoda, hey.... when 900 years old you reach, look as good, you will not.. maybe when Yoda was still under a century, he was nowhere near as green and shiveled. You never can tell about these sorts of things, so I thought I'd just get that out of the way.
What, you aren't tired of him yet..? Anyplace you see red hair, that's him.. definitely a bit of a story I've got going, here. ;D

DJ-Smexy In reply to razimo [2008-06-10 16:23:01 +0000 UTC]
Hehehe, well then I'll have to get out my reprimanding stick and we'll make a night of it.
Tired of him? Are you kidding? I hope you're just getting started. When I noticed a common theme (red hair, shirtlessness) I started to get terribly excited. I'm more wondering if any of this lovely backstory is ever going to be explicitly explained, instead of leaving me to wonder and make up my own sordidly naughty one (which is okay, I'm having fun with that ). Either way, keep it coming!
And by the way, that tattoo is amazing. I'd be very tempted to get one my self, but I fear that my... um, feminine appendages might get in the way. Tee hee!
π: 0 β©: 1
razimo In reply to DJ-Smexy [2008-06-22 15:31:02 +0000 UTC]
..you have an actual, designated reprimanding stick? Nice.
Ahhh!! Obviously you have no idea just how much trouble you can get yourself into around me by egging me on, because.. well.. it pretty much works! More red hair and shirtlessness are definitely looming on your horizon, or perhaps just sneaking up on you in the shower. Whichever you prefer - for what it's worth, our Redheaded objet d'art is definitely a sordidly naughty sort, so rock right on with that line of thinking, feel free to share, etc., heeeeee!
As for the tattoo, oh dear... you're right.... xD .. I'm just not seeing a way to make female anatomy work in a pleasing way with this tattoo. My own female appendages are on a distressingly small scale, and even still... it would be an odd bump in the midst of one's rampaging gryphon. Maybe if you put it on your back, instead? I swear, I've actually never really been all that fond of tattoos, until I saw the HUGE tribal that inpired this, then drawing this one has.. well, it's the first thing ever in my cowardly little life that I do believe I would get a tattoo of! Erm, much smaller, though. xD
*thinks about it a bit worse* Oh, goodness, my boyfriend would die.....

It just keeps getting better and better. I know what you mean by the rough stage of yuck, though. Any artist who has never experienced it either isn't advanced enough to make that many layers yet, or is really, really lucky with color, haha.
As far as his skin goes, I think it would work well to bring some of the red you used in his hair (a more blood red...a "cooler" red) into the shadows, around the lines. I think it'll bring some life into it, even if it's very subtle.
π: 0 β©: 1
razimo In reply to MorganEdwardAshton [2008-05-29 04:40:27 +0000 UTC]
DAMN GOOD SUGGESTION. I did exactly that - threw some red into the skin tones, I mean - Photoshop has these.. GASP OMG, '
hoto filters'...! (Who knew!?) .. and damn if those things aren't rather useful. I slapped a 'warming' filter on, and the skin tones immediately feel less zombie-ish! Hurray!
And thank goodness it isn't just me..! I think this is why I absolutely adore artists that are willing to share their works-in-progress! I study them wherever I can find them, and I have yet to see one where every single step along the way was gorgeous. Heck.. most of them had several different ugly stages! The really great artists just pull everything together at the end. So awesome.
.. brain is.. so scattered...! I need to go to bed, but I'm having fun.

Awesome! I see how it's coming along, and it looks great! He looks downright SHINY, which is awesome.
Guh, I need to be cool and submit some WIPs of my own...I work so strangely. I'll finish some of the lines, and then I'll throw color in random places, and then I'll work on the lines some more...add shading and highlights to the colors that exist........I am the true ADHD artist. Seriously. The main picture I'm working on right now (a picture of a six-year-old Mello from that fic I talked about in one of the other comments...children are HARD) has half-cleaned up lines, pretty much fully finished skin and eyes, half-finished hair, a half-shaded shirt, and flat colors everywhere else. XDDD
Gah, my brain's been scattered for months now, and no amount of sleep will save me. >___> Grrr.

OMG, he looked downright BLECH..! o.O; I don't know HOW I didn't notice that it was compressed all to crap; but sure enough I didn't, until I looked at it on another computer. Much MUCH better now... enormous filesize, very lovely, etc. and so-forth.
Hey, if annoying the hell out of people with WIPs is cool, then I must be.. like.. right up there with the New Kids on the Block. Dude. Word, yo. xD I, personally, love to see them.. I've rambled about that before, though. I think. You should submit one. Your art-progress style does sound rather ADHD, I must admit! HEE! I do the more conventional 'Fuss endlessly over the fun bits then hurry through the boring ones to get back to the fun.' I'm LOVING the coloring technique I discovered; it's a freakin' awesome shortcut past the part I hate (establishing base colors for things) to the part I love (adding TEH SHINIES).
If it makes you feel any better, I too have been getting six hours of sleep a night for.. wow.. it's pushed right into a couple of years, now. I'm a night owl that has to struggle to get to sleep before midnight, but the alarm goes off at six. Then I'm exhausted, and sleep all afternoon when I get home from work, which hacks me off, which makes me stay up like, which.. gaaaaahhh!!! you figure out a way to make it work, please let me know!

MorganEdwardAshton In reply to razimo [2008-07-19 20:41:30 +0000 UTC]
Gah, compressed files for the LOSE. Big, shiny files fuck the what. (<-Note: When I first saw "FTW", I thought it was a dyslexic "WTF". Thus, instead of "For the Win", you get "Fuck the What".)
I think I actually need to submit a couple of WIPs to mah scraps, so I can get some feedback. This pic is gonna be a pain to do, since I'm planning on adding interesting lighting and color washes OVER what I'm doing right now. Plus...I love inking, but I HATE "inking" on the computer. It's so much more tedious. I'm actually considering scrapping almost all of what I have on this pic, printing out a copy, putting it on my lightboard, and re-doing the entirety of it by HAND. Inks, colors...everything. I kind of miss traditional art, anyway.
*goes and puts that up NAO*
Yei, I has WIP!
Oh man, I LOVE pciking out highlight and shading colors to use. It's one of my favorite things about coloring (under making it SHINY, like you said). I just don't like taking the time to put in the shadows and highlights, which means that the black-and-white-first coloring technique...doesn't help at all. XDDD Thing I hate most, though? Putting down base colors. GAH. And there's NO WAY around that, unless you do a stylistically washed out picture with just shading.
Hmmmm. *ponders*
I couldn't help you with the sleep schedule thing. My issue is just about exactly the same. Only difference is that mine is pushed back a little farther...I refuse to take classes before noon, if I can avoid it. Of course, it's STILL far too easy for me to stay up past 3, which still gives me less than 8 hours, which means that I still take a lot of naps/and/or sleep for almost entire weekends...which I forced myself to avoid doing today, since I have a lot of crap to get done...and it's only SECOND WEEK of school. *cries*
This quarter is going to be a bitch...

Everything about this picture screams "Sweet!": the cool background with the faded verse, the water splashing from his shoulder and dripping from his chin, the detail of the expression on his face, the realism of his pants and belt, and the texture of the tattoo. How do you do this stuff? I love it!
Cool title, by the way. What's the significance?
π: 0 β©: 1
razimo In reply to rynling [2008-05-27 03:07:00 +0000 UTC]
...What can I say to that but SWEET! Seriously, it makes me just.. like.. roll around on the floor with happy-happy-happyness when someone notices the stuff that I agonised over.. all those little details! I bet there's a smiley for that.. rolling on the floor from happy-happy-happyness....
Anyway, I do that stuff with a .03 mechanical pencil, photo references, and a heck of a lot of willingness to erase it and erase it and erase it until I like it! Gah... I do traditional art, but I don't think I could turn out a drawing to save my life: by the time I'm done erasing and fiddling and re-working, the paper is a complete mess, and Photoshop is required to turn it into something presentable. I Google for pictures of wet men, and as soon as I manage to stop drooling, I eye them critically.. just how does water move on skin anyway? I take a shower, and watch how the water drips / flows / splashes off the parts of me that I can see. (My boyfriend enjoys it when I do this sort of 'research.'
As for the title, I bet you know that 'rakuen' is 'aradise'... obviously it's a rather ironic title, no? *g*

It's totally apparent how much attention you bring to your subject - that's one of the things I like about your art.
I wonder how one does that sort of Google search. I can see myself trying the same sort of search only to have my computer blow up from the viruses that are just waiting to attack it from the realm of "wet men"... XD

Thank you - that's quite a compliment! I take about fifteen forevers to get a piece of art done, and it drives me a little crazy, sometimes, to see what people can do in a single afternoon and I wonder if I'm doing something wrong... but oh well! I'm slow.
I have a good time. All the same.. it takes forever, so when someone notices, I go 'squee!' quite a lot from joy.
SQUUEEEE!!!!
Like that!
Google image search, and unless you want quite an education, make sure that 'moderate safe search' is on. Really, the worst trouble I've gotten into with Google was over horses - Horses! Horses for cryin' out loud! Never ever use 'riding' as a search term - just don't do it!

Why, thank you! Would you believe I don't even like tattoos, as a rule? I really don't, but then I ran across this picture of this dude with a huuuuge tribal - it wrapped around his whole shoulder, down his arm, and clear over his pec on one side, went 'Holy Crap! Hot As Hell!' and immediately started working on this drawing: I figure that's the nice thing about being an artist, lust is a perfectly acceptable artistic springboard.

Like I said - it is so rare that I see a tattoo I really like that I'd never acquired much of a fondness for them. (.. I live in the South, though, you know? 'Tasteful' is not a requirement for tattoos around here. Point of fact, I think it's expressly discouraged. *shudder*) Looking around online, though, I have most certainly found examples of tattoos that positively made me drrr..rrrrr...ooooooool.... Tribals particularly.. I find I would like to trace them....

Yeah, I can definitely understand that. Texas is a weird state in that you get all types of people, from the trashiest trash to the swankiest...swank? Yeeeah. I've definitely seen my fair share of trashy tattoos...people wearing clothing 3 sizes too small with the name of an ex hiding in their flab? Yeeah. Not something that gives the art a good name. But I'd also been fascinated with the things since I was little. My sister had one, and I looked up to her, and so I wanted one since the age of...8, maybe? Plus, I've always had a fascination with tribal culture, and so the origin of tattoos, and their use in ceremony and as a true art form has always been a love of mine, which is why it took me two years to design and finally get my own tribal. It's nothing fancy, really, but it has a lot of personal meaning to me. (It's an anklet, and the outside of my ankle has a symbol that's represented me since childhood, and which you can find in a lot of my original art. The inside says "I believe in something" in a code I've used for probably just as long, and which isn't really as wishy-washy as you'd think. There's a lot to the statement, but I won't go into it right now...maybe later.
)

RAAAAZIIIIMOOOOO!!!! (That is fun, haha.)
Mello and Matt are from Death Note, and they've pretty much taken me over. They're very interesting characters. Poor Matt is barely in the series at all, but has gained a remarkably huge fanbase, despite, probably because most of his role is comprised of complete, utter, selfless loyalty to Mello. Very romantic, if you ask me. Mello is my favorite character in the series, even though he doesn't come in until over halfway through, and actually isn't in it all that much. There's just something about him...He's crazy, a chocoholic, beautiful, and has a passion for action that's unmatched in most characters...he's willing to give up everything to reach his goals, but has a huge inferiority complex that I can definitely relate to.
But yeah, I could rant about those two all day, so I'll stop.
If that club ever gets invented, and you find out about it before I do, be sure to tell me, and I'll do the same for you, haha.
Ah, so THAT's what the title means. I found it in a comment below. Paradise, huh? Interesting. What language?

Oh, now that all sounds so very cool...! I have now officially heard enough fascinating stuff about Death Note that I want to look into it.. I would get into it for this fascinating romantic angle alone, not that I like the mushy stuff. Oh heck no - look at my dA. Do I look like someone who is just enchanted by satisfying, complex relationships to you? Pffftt! Cynical little bitch, that's meeeee.... Feel free to rant all you want.. but I'll feel bad when I can't make anything even close to a meaningful reply!!
.. you know, it occurs to me, dA itself is kinda one big Artists Who Rawr club.. xD At least, most of the artists whose pages I've read on here seem very good-natured about art, and happily willing to Rawr at their own art! I do enjoy that.
Yes, 'rakuen' is 'aradise'.. as for language, should be Japanese? Either Japanese, or an 'imported' Chinese word? As for that being the title, it really seriously was just a random 'gah this needs a title!' thing that turned perfect by way of a bit of healthy irony. I love it when a good (non) plan comes together! Rawwrrr! xD

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAziMOOOOOOOOOOO!!! (We should probably stop, before we make other people's heads explode, or something, haha.)
Oh noooo. YOU, fascinated with romance? NEVAR. I mean, seriously, I'm not either. I friggin' HATE all of that mushy crap. Despise it. ABHOR it. XDDD
Do get into Death Note! One of the things I love about the series is that most of the main characters are smart--Genuses, in fact--so most of the plot is driven by sheer battle of wit. Plus, in a lot of ways, the protagonist of the series is really the bad guy, while the antagonists, while not perfectly good either, are usually the ones fighting for a more just cause. Mello and Matt are antagonists, though Mello probably blurs the line between good and evil more than any other character in the series. He's fighting "Kira" (The protagonist), but at the same time, he does a lot of very bad things (He's a friggin' Mafioso) to do it. And it's funny, because he's given this very bad reputation because of his position and the fact that he looks and acts like a complete psychopath, and yet there are hints surrounding him that he's Catholic, like the fact that he constantly wears a rosary. So he has that kind of two-sidedness that I like: He's in a very bad group, and yet he's of a faith that is SUPPOSED to (although it doesn't always) bring you salvation. He's especially fun to write, because of that. (If you have time, and you'd like to, you can check out my fic in my gallery to see how I view the characters...it's spoilerific, though.)
DA really is, isn't it? Maybe that's why I love it so much.
Haha, very cool, with the title. I do love me some healthy irony! XD

Well, I've colored him a LITTLE more.. bit by bit! And, you know, added his wee tiny tattoo of a gryphon. I'm glad you like him! This is totally turning into the best art weekend Ever.

:rotfl: Yes, I am easily amused today...... just a weeeeee bitty gryphon, you'd scarcely notice it, very easy to hide from your Mum during the holidays....

Maybe it's the moon! Everyone is having a good artistic weekend. Hurrah!!
