Description hey all...

alright soo first off let me say writing these isn't my thing but i did make a promise to a couple people specifically about this so i thought i would go through with it.... haha i know i know it is very lame and looks like i just slapped it together well yes yes i did!!! but what is important is the process explained in it....

there might be some errors and if so please let me know honestly i wasn't that buzy when i started it now i am very buzy sooo it is what it is no frills no thrills just good honest no bullshit the best way (i personally think) way to seperate your lines from the flat bg once they are cleaned and prepped with one touch of a button.... don't believe read it learn it!!!

finally i would also like to say thank you again to my bud from across the pond si!!!! you are the man, if you see changes needed let me know..

you said 'writting is NOT my thing' but good taste for typography isn't your thing neither

separete my lines using the channels, it's pretty similar.

like simon said, the faster way to unlock the background is double left clik, but since you recorded this as an action doesn't matter too much.
I read some of the comments, one of the first things that I learn in college when I was studying Graphic Design was name the layers (and good taste for typography XD)

Nice tut man

haha well i will have to ahhhh agree i guess... to tell you the trutht that was the first one i came across sooo, what ever!!!

yeah you are correct it is alot like channels i personally and this is just a personal thing don't like messing with channels i know alot of big time guys that do cause it is suppose to use less ram/memory what ever but i just never got confirtable with it.

as for the unlocking well that is the first way that i learned so that is the way that i do it soo

thanks bro i glad you dug it... but like i said it not my thing hehe

well you know I'm a Graphic designer so I couldn't not bother you about that , legibility is a big issue for this kind of stuff.

a time ago I found a tutorial by Ariel Olivetti ([link] ), a great comic artist from my country that work for all the big publishers, course that he has assistants to make his flats but he showed the method using the channels. I tried and honstly I don't like it, it's true that using that method you save some resources, but wheh he made that tutorial he used a pentium 4 with 1gb ram, in that case has sense but if you have a quad core running at 3Ghrz and 6gb ram you can use your flats in a layer like we do.

well like all the fantasy fonts it's not good for long text, also it's a bit childish

I don't know if the tut is on that web or it's in english, I put it just to you could see his colors.
What about that account only has 3 deviations and the 3 are the same photo.

yeah Ariel is a really good colorist but also an awesome penciler, I think one of his advantages in coloring is that when the guy started in comic he used to color with traditional oil paint so his digital coloring has something of that traditional style.

I checked , nice colors.

Good man, that about covers it (also, another way to unlock the locked BG layer is to just double left click it!). If anyone struggles with this, you can always send em an action file which will do it all for them too... in case some people are really lazy and dont wanna actually learn the buttons and functions haha

rcardoso530 In reply to spidermanfan2099 [2011-03-07 14:39:05 +0000 UTC]

Haha...send them the action file WHAAAAAT lol if someone can't figure this out then they should just walk away hahaha j/k you know I might offer that the only thing is I also have mine set for all my adjustment layers too cause I use the exact same layer set every time that all in all including the lines and bg and flats I use 7 layers... anymore than that it is a piece specific know what I mean.

Well never the less thanks for sharing and hope you dug it I just wish I. Was better at making these

i have the same but a flat bg layer...

haha i was laughing cause i knew you full of shiiiiiiiit on the 79 layers though i will be the first to admit when i first discovered the magic of layers i had one piece that i actually counted no bullshit 149 layers hahah and my stupid ass didn't even label them soo when i had to go back and make adjustments i was like ahhhh fuckit!! lol.... ahhh time and experience is such a good thing

spidermanfan2099 In reply to rcardoso530 [2011-03-07 17:58:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, we all go mental at first, it takes confidence to lower the layer count. My Vector piece's usually had around 1000 layers/paths which got mighty confusing (thank f### for group colour tabs and folders!!)

Got to label every layer now, a good habit to form definitely, and folders

rcardoso530 In reply to spidermanfan2099 [2011-03-07 18:09:28 +0000 UTC]

TRUE THAT!!! i have never done a vector thing either you just a man of many issues hmmm... but seriously 1000 layers/paths WOW

yeah sometimes with pieces that i have to get nuts with the layers kinda when i do seperate flats and adjustments for foreground characters/objects and bg characters/objects i will use folders to seperate everything and you know i dont know why but why would you not label them? i think we get soo envolved in the piece we think ahhh i will remember everything...NOT

This is the method i was taught pretty recently and ti works like a charm most of the time. Hopefully the people reading this will read the first part where you mention that you were working with already clean lines and don't flood you with notes about how their's is messed up. LoL How to clean lines would be a whole OTHER tutorial...

Great tut and thanks for sharing knowledge!

rcardoso530 In reply to LadyOrange [2011-03-07 14:42:15 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment and your right it will not work correctly if the lines aren't prepped/cleaned and ready to start coloring that was why I try to repeat that exact point quite a few times cause I know someone is going to try without getting lines ready and then say hey wtf it don't work...

Thanks and welcome I hope it helps ppl as much as it helped me even if the tuts design is lame

LadyOrange In reply to rcardoso530 [2011-03-07 16:44:24 +0000 UTC]

I thought the design was just fine don't be so hard on yourself. Sometimes things are more function than "fashion" sop to speak. It is clear and easy to follow and that is everything I think a tut needs to be you did a bang up job

Just cause it doesn't have 15 chibi versions of you explaining the steps on it doesn't mean its not a good tut....Hahaha *wink*

thanks for the kind words... and i do agree with you on the fact it should be more fact than fashion but since i a colorist i always looking at making things look appealing to the eye and would have be cool to have the time to make it look alot better but wasn't worried about it too much know what i mean...

haha i hear you
