Here is the second caricature painting I did for my class. It is of Ash (Bruce Campbell) from the "Evil Dead" series. I had the most problems on this one out of all three caricature paintings I did. On first glance it's alright, but there a few problems with it. The lighting on his face is inconsistent, the tree on the right is weirdly and badly drawn, and there are some rendering problems throughout. I started out okay with a black and white Prismacolor pencil drawing on toned paper (which I might post as well), but I used a different technique from the first painting and got bored with it real quick, which affected the quality of work. The process was that I scanned the black and white drawing into the computer and colorized it in Photoshop. I then printed it out, matte mediumed it to illustration board, and went over it with oils. At this stage it was very unfinished so I put a layer of matte medium and modeling paste over the surface to give it tooth so I could go over it with colored pencil. While I enjoyed this part of the process, there were too many problems with the original oil painting for the colored pencil to fix. I guess it's true what they say: fix everything in the drawing and planning stages instead of trying to fix it in the final painting. It definately makes life easier.
