A romantic vision of the course of love is of a steep mountain path, alternately rising sharply or plunging exhilaratingly down to the valleys, yet bordered by sheer drops always. What if the secret to lasting relationships was more akin to negotiating one's way along the deceptively smooth beaches of Camber Sands when the tide is slowly coming in ? Being careful not to trip, giving a helping hand when it is needed, always keeping an eye on the common destination and, ultimately, being prepared to retrace your steps and trudge through an unexpected detour when, despite your best efforts, you end up cut off from the rest of the path by an indifferent expanse of water.

The beach of Camber Sands, opening onto the English Channel, is the only sand dune system in East Sussex and a favourite destination with holiday-goers and day-trippers. It is referenced in a number of (mostly British) popular culture efforts, such as songs by Suede, The Fall, Feeder or an EP by Fatboy Slim.
