Young Barry Allen witnessed the death of his mother at the hands of an unknown metahuman, and his father was wrongly accused of her murder. To prove his father's innocence, he goes to Central City University, wanting to graduate as a forensic scientist. While studying in chemistry class during a thunderstorm, Barry is struck by lightning and doused with chemicals that give him a connection to the Speed Force, which endowed him with superhuman speed, which he decides to use to protect the innocent and investigate his father's case as the masked superhero-speedster Flash.
