Description Hey guys!

Havnt had a chance to post something new in a little while. Mainly cause I have been busy with work-art, which unfortunately dosn't usually get seen for quite some time. I will see about posting some of that stuff in the future.

Anyway, for now, I wanted to show this rough breakdown sketch, as well as some of the 'studies' I have been doing. Not sure if many have noticed, but I had put a little sign on the bottom of my journal entry saying that if you caught the 30,000 page views on my front page, and copy n pasted the info, I would take a request drawing. Well, lucky THORCUS grabbed that, and requested a couple of streetfighter characters. The one which popped out to me was RYU. I have always had trouble drawing RYU, so I did a couple of different versions to try and get him right.

For the final piece I plan to do full finished inks. I will be fixing up a lot of the mistakes you can see in this sketch. Particularly the leg region which I feel is a little crappy and undynamic right now. It will be interesting to see how it turns out anyway. My inking is pretty rusty these days.

Anyway....now's the time to go hardcore on the critiques. If there is anything extra crap, now's the time to say it, or forever hold your piece! haha

Thanks for looking!

J.

hahaha.....did you see the finished inks? They are already posted

By the way, I intended that one to be a sun rather than a moon.....Ryu's original stage was a sunset background!

Done and done.

I've noticed that shoulder thing a few times on some of your other pics. That's a style choice?

The inks came out wonderuflly, the white was done well and don't sweat the crosshatch, it looks good.

Cool, thanks!

Can you explain to me exactly what you mean by the shoulder thing, and I will explain it

If its something you have noticed as a repeated thing, then it would seem to me that it must be a style choice of mine, and probably the way I have chosen to construct my muscly shoulder muscles. I have definately not been a great example of perfect anatomy, but I think when your playing with anatomy as much as I do, then it is important to keep consistent.

Hope that makes sense!!

wolfprime In reply to Red-J [2005-12-23 23:30:27 +0000 UTC]

Well. the deltoid [shoulder muscle] is basically an upside down tear drop. That's if viewed from the front, side or back. It IS separated into three parts, anterior, posterior, and medial. The point of the 'teardrop' sits right between where the bicep and tricep muscles meet. However, it is not split down the middle like you've depicted it.

I just happen to be looking for pics to illustrate this and found this website [[link] There are a few pics that show what I mean.

Hope this helps.

Hey K. I'm getting a "page not found" on that link, but I hear what your saying about the muscular structure. Its not something I have really gone into studying, but I will have a look at some shoulder muscles, as I am interested in finding out how they actually work! heh.

thanks!

Eh, it was some amateur bodybuilder doing shoulder exercises, a google search will get you a million of those.

I looked through your gallery and it's something that is recurring so I thought it was a style issue. But you don't do it ALL the time and almost never if ever on women . . .

I didn't want to seem insulting, but if you do research that and apply it hopefully I've helped if only a smidgen. You're already a kick ass artist.

Yep, you SURE should. I know people [like me] who sometimes would rather see the sketches than the final art and others who like to see a piece from start to finish.

Nothing to lose . . . DA space is free . . .

Actually, I like the emotionless aspect of him as you had mentioned. Most peeps say "pretty Boy" because you never really see his face banged up, even in the animes, which you put off to someone who takes careful stride in not getting hit in the face, hence the pretty boy talk.
But, yea, even angry he's more of rugged handsome, than "Hulk handsome."
Great work Red, can't wait for the end piece.

Oi Abraao,

I use these wierd fineliners which I bought in Chile for the main lines. I can't tell you the brand because it has rubbed off the pens from so much use! haha. Basically any black fineliner or micron is good, as long as it dosnt fade when you erase over it. I like to use the sizes 0.5, 0.4 and 0.2.

I also use a brush with black ink, and white paint. I also use white out for effects and clean up....

Hope that makes sense I found that the good materials are hard to find here in Sao Paulo, and when you find them, they are quite expensive!

Hey Red, looks cool dude. Personally I think that his feet aughta be further apart, cuz it starts to lose the dynamics of the rest of a dynamic pose. I really like it though dude. Love your style.

No prob, Man. You are a really good artist dude. GO with your own gut instincts too. You have got some really kick ass lines in your artwork already. I am quite sure that your inks will turn out better than what I usually produce(which isn't really saying much, even though I am slowly improving). Keep up the good work
