Description
It was a dark and stormy night out in the backwoods near Crystal Cove, an American town on the East coast. In those woods was a two-story plantation home, left dilapidated and abandoned. Suddenly, a portal opened on the path leading to the front door and out stepped Barnabus, a highly intelligent chimpanzee wearing clothes and a deerstalker hat. Barnabus, after using his magical skills to seal the portal behind him, took out a recorder and logged his thoughts on the mission parameters set before him: three young adults from the nearby town had vanished overnight, and The Shadowpact, Barnabus’ team of heroic magic users, detect that a magic user like them may be behind the disappearances. Barnabus, after finishing his recording, entered the house. It was musty, dark, and rundown, but this house was indeed where the magic signature was detected ending after trailing from the sites of the kidnappings. Being a skilled detective, trained by his former partner Timothy Trench, Barnabus began his investigation. The magic trail stopped at the front door, but Barnabus knew that there must be a hidden passage somewhere leading to the kidnapping victims. Suddenly, Barnabus heard two voices speaking outside the door he entered from, so he had to hide behind a couch. The voices became more understandable as they approached and then the door slowly opened as a young man and his dog, a Great Dane, poked their heads in, a scared look across their faces. The two entered and Barnabus then attacked the human, misunderstanding that they are NOT the kidnappers. The chimp latched himself onto the young man’s face, trying to wrestle him down until the dog grabbed him by the leg and flung him off, causing Barnabus to fly across the room and crash into a painting. Barnabus cursed them both out, and demanded to know where they hid their victims. While the human was still reeling from the attack, the dog, speaking human language (though, with a speech impediment), explained that they’re here to look for their friends, the ones who were kidnapped. Realizing that these two were not his enemies, Barnabus apologized and asked their names. The human male is Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, and his dog is named Scooby Doo. Shaggy and Scooby Doo explained to Barnabus, whom they kept calling “Bobo” or “Detective Chimp”, that their friends, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, and Velma Dinkley, were the three kidnapped by the unknown perpetrator. Barnabus warned the two of dangerous magics at play and told them to leave and let him work. Shaggy told Barnabus that he and Scooby Doo, like the rest of their friends, are skilled detectives, and that they ARE staying to find them. Even if they ARE scared out of their wits. Barnabus conceded and told them to stay close to him. The three began investigating the manor house and this brought them to the kitchen, where Shaggy and Scooby Doo took it upon themselves to ravenously eat the food in the fridge. This annoyed Barnabus, but this fresh food confirms that someone IS residing in this otherwise dilapidated house. Then there was a loud, deep growl coming from somewhere near the room, which scared Shaggy and Scooby Doo and caused Barnabus to prepare to fight, him claiming that he senses a strong magic signature nearby. The guy and dog backed into the shadowed corner of the room, nervously, but collided with a solid, and furry, entity; they looked up and saw a tall, sasquatch-like creature with pronounced lower tusks looming over them! They yelled (“Zoinks!”/”Rikes!”) and ran off from the beast that began pursuing them; Shaggy and Scooby grabbed Barnabus by the wrist as they ran off. The beast chased after our trio throughout the manor, with Barnabus protesting that they need to let go so he can fight the monster. The nameless beast backed them into a corner and charged after them. Barnabus got free from Shaggy’s grasp and conjured a repulsion sigil on the floor in front of them. This caused the monster to be propelled through the ceiling and then crash-land through the old floors! The trio looked through the hole in the floor to see an underground cavern beneath the manor. The beast, wounded, had soon made its way down a flight of carved-out steps further into the cavern, and our heroes snuck in to follow after it. They peered into a central cavern and saw a man, in cult-like ceremonial robes and a hood, admonishing the beast for its failure to get rid of the intruders. He claims that ‘the ritual must not be interrupted’. The trio look further into the cavern and see a pit of fire with three cages suspended above it with hooked chains connected to a pully system. In the cages were Fred, Daphne, and Velma! Barnabus yelled out and said to the kidnapper and his beastly minion are to surrender. The man commanded the beast to attack, and it went after Shaggy and Scooby with their friends watching on. The kidnapper himself went after Barnabus, who conjured a magic sword from his deerstalker hat while the villain pulled out a ritual dagger. In the end, the beast collided with a stone wall (after Shaggy and Scooby dove out of the way of his attack) that rocked the chamber, and that caused the cages holding the villain’s victims to be flung off the hooks and land square on the beast, pinning him down and freeing them. When the hooded villain looked back to see what happened, Barnabus knocked the dagger out of his hand and into the pit of flames. The destruction of the magic dagger frees the beast from the hooded man’s control, and he seizes him with an armbar behind his back. With the masked villain bested, Fred takes of his hood, and he’s revealed to be “Old Man” Dover, a local store owner. When asked why he went through this, Dover explained that he wanted an army of demons, like the beast he was controlling, to take over the world. Barnabus explained that he’s too dangerous to keep in a normal prison, so the Shadowpact “will take care of him”. He then used a magic spell to teleport Dover away. The nameless beast, now docile and harmless, walked towards a sound they all heard, which sounded like a baby crying. They found a hidden room in the cavern, and inside was a crib with a healthy baby boy crying away. The name above his bed says his name is “Stanley Dover”, and they assumed that he’s “Old Man” Dover’s grandson. Scooby Doo and his friends turned over the child to local child protection services soon enough, with Barnabus and the nameless beast looking on from the shadows. Understanding the beast’s demonic language, Barnabus was told by him that the nameless beast will return to the town of Crystal Cove one day to look after the young Stanley, as penitence for the kidnappings he committed under Stanley’s grandfather’s control. In the meantime, he’ll take up Barnabus’ offer to stay with the Shadowpact in their school in Salem, MS.
