Description And that night, Twilight wrote a letter to Celestia.

You can't fix what isn't broken. Instead, it was Twilight's own perspective that our little Derpy Hooves helped fix.

--------EDIT----------

- FEATURED ON EQD! [link]

- I would like to point out that you are, indeed, looking at Princess Twilight. Look, you can even see her wings.

Twilight could have asked Derpy, but then again you can't really find something out from the lack of something, that's why experimentation is so commonly used.

Why would Twilight be the first one to bring up the fact that her eyes are that way, because the author states that she is unaware of the possibilities of a impairment.

There are many hereditary and developed physical attributes to people that are not harmful but are very similar to those which are, and thus you can't just say that the message is good because she is ignoring it.

If people have been telling Derpy about such things to her she has reason to panic, because this suggests that she may have a mental flaw, like memory and the sorts. Even if that's true, the author can't give off that is all hearted comic because of Twilight's response to the matter. By shading someone of their possible impairments you could be damaging them because it could be fixed.

Although it is still taught that bias is better than prejudice, I still go by this idea:
Supremacy is just the belief that everyone else is inferior.

Cool! Another person that over analyzed this comic like me! You're getting point for this, your text is a great read by the way. You broke down the unfortunately implications of this comic quite better than i did.

No, Derpy knows her eye is lazy but she thinks it's "not broken." So why fix it? It's not that she doesn't know she's got a lazy eye, it's that she accepts her flaw.

But then again, the only 'impairment' - if you can even call it that - here is Derpy's eyes. Twilight was merely thinking that if Derpy wanted, she could help her out. But since Derpy was proud of herself for being different, Twilight felt sincerely moved by it.

I'm just saying that what happens in this comic is what happens, not what COULD be happening. I don't think that Twilight would react in this way if it was something way more serious. And seeing as how this is just Derpy's eyes we're talking about, it just shows how comfortable Derpy is with herself.

I've got a question - Why do people always link back to EQD when they're featured? Is it one of their rules? Do you just feel the need to parade it around? What's up with that?

I can't speak for everyone, but I just love to brag.

If I got featured on EQD, and wanna link back to it because "pics or it didn't happen," you can bet your ass I'm gonna. XD

We're all entitled to a little bragging, and we all have the right to be proud, amirite?

The author says that it was about that she doesn't have any kind of impairment. The author possibly contradicts, and his idea is far from original, so I wouldn't go about believing him.

I'll admit that I read Derpy's part in the voice does for the character. It works very well with this comic.

Regardless of what some of the "neighsayers" seem to think, I get and like the message you have here. Even if Derpy's issue can be seen as a disability or sorts, it doesn't mean that she is "broken." This really is a valuable lesson to learn.

The idea is that she thought her eyes needed fixing. The lesson learned was that she should accept people (or ponies) for who they are, and not assume that being different means something is wrong.

You see, Derpy was completely oblivious to Twilight's perspective, and actually thought she was just making a joke. Derpy didn't think for one second that Twi actually believed she needed to be fixed.

Again, the message is that just because you're different, doesn't mean there is something wrong with you.

GandrewCarder In reply to RedApropos [2013-03-28 20:57:18 +0000 UTC]

There are reasons as to why her eyes being the way they are can be considered a impairment, and you can fix something that is damaged. Suggesting that either A) Twilight is the most outspoken character to encounter Derpy or B) Derpy is completely ignorant to what people clear have already seen as a problem before, and have likely told her, is incredibly ridiculous. Just because she may have a impairment, hereditary, or due to physical damage, doesn't mean that she is stupid. For Twilight to learn such a thing should not be responded with a nod of agreement, that puts her at a lower position, but I would understand if you taking it from a realistic approach, because such ideals like "white man's burden" do exist.

She COULD be aware of her "impairment," but that would just make my comic even better.

But.. Derpy isn't "different" in a good way, Derpy has a medical issue that should be resolved..haha. Yeah, I see what your talking about. But it is just such an overly-used cliche..
