Actually, Ditzy Doo was the original name of Derpy until the fandom got hold of her. Ever since, she's been known by both names. You can find the details of it in the Doctor Whooves series found on YouTube.

More like 75% fan assumption since she mentioned the name Ditzy Dew and the name fits perfectly with that character. The last name of Doo was the 100% fan assumption. All pony names follow similar themes.

Lauren Faust herself confirmed Ditzy is a different pony. Long before Derpy, she wanted to have a sort of clutzy pony, whom she dubbed Ditzy Doo. Derpy and her crossed eyes were simply a coincidence.

To clarify. Derpy was originally supposed to be the Ditzy Do character and when Lauren Faust caught wind of the fandom giving her a name already, before she could have the name officially announced as belonging to this pony, she chose to allow the fandom to keep their self created character and was forced to find another character to fit the name, but has yet to do so. This is because the character name was mentioned without having been specifically linked to the pony we now know as Derpy. Derpy was originally meant to be Ditzy Do according to Lauren Faust but she had to find another pony for the already mentioned name. And that's how Equestria was made.

I am worst pony, but no, not really. I'd say Twilight should have been more tactful and actually asked Derpy if her eyes were giving her trouble, like with the two things I mentioned. Her reply in your comic obviously implies otherwise. I made the joke because the real life condition is similar to her eyes' positions.

The idea is that she thought her eyes needed fixing. The lesson learned was that she should accept people (or ponies) for who they are, and not assume that being different means something is wrong.

Pretty much, I made the joke that Derpy simply refused to accept something was wrong. But of course in a cartoon universe she'd be fine, don't people like black humor anymore? I got the lesson of your comic the first time I read it, there's nothing wrong with it, it's a good comic.

I would just like to make it crystal clear that Derpy didn't DENY there was anything wrong with her.
The idea was that she was completely oblivious to Twilight's perspective, and actually thought she was just making a joke. Derpy didn't think for one second that Twi actually believed she needed to be fixed.
Derpy's appreciation for Twi's kindness was the heartstring puller, and Twi's realization was the deal sealer.

I get it! I already said I understood it the first time! I've derailed the interpretation to something more literal for the sake of a joke! Though you bring unfortunate implications, since it seems Twilight was unintentionally guilt tripped into not fixing something that may in fact actually be wrong. Of course it isn't since this cartoon is supposedly an utopia, and you're not the type of doing something that. I just love over analyzing things myself.

Black humor doesn't translate well with ponies. It's also very hard to be humorous tactfully in text, since there is no subtext involved. As far as Derpy goes though, ask her if her eyes are troubling her, and if she says no, and if she's not presenting with any obvious difficulties, then it's all good. Same applies to real life.

Sense of Humor is a peculiar thing, it is individual for everyone. If you don't enjoy black humor with ponies, or it just doesn't work out for you, that's fine. I like it myself, but that's just my own sense of humor.
