Description
Goddess of love, joy, and beauty in ancient Egypt and often considered to be the wife of Horus and the mother of the pharaohs. She is the "Mistress of the West" and a daughter of Ra. Sometimes she is depicted as a cow or cow-headed woman. She is also identified with goddesses like Bast and Sekhemet, and sometimes she is interchanged with them. A popular ancient belief was that there were seven aspects of Hathor that appeared at the birth of a child to decide that child's destiny.
