Description
Tii-iii-iii-iime is on my side... yes it is!I wanted to do something different, completely out of my head with no references, in a monochromatic color scheme. So I popped in my Lord of the Rings dvd and got in the mood to paint cool old guys.

This looks like it was made of beaten copper. Amazing texture and use of monochromatic color.

Thanks! I love working in monochrome, I think you can really put an idea across clearly that way.

The one and only time I worked in monochrome it turned out terrible.
It was an acrylic painting class in high school. I chose to do a mountain sunset, obviously using orange as my color. Problem is, I didn't have the knack for blending so the colors aren't smooth at all and I couldn't get the shades of orange to look right to begin with. Because of those flaws, the color overwhelms and looks disgusting, to me at least.
I did have a couple sucessful paintings in the class. I might photo them and deviate them at some point.

I love how this is all in sepia. It makes it feel old.
You paint old people just as well as you paint young/youthful immortal people. And that's quite an accomplishment.

Thank you so much! I like painting different kinds of subjects, I don't want all of my paintings looking the same.

Pretty impressive! I like the texture a lot, I know it's the paper grain but still, it really fits the character and image well.
The lighting is also excellent, I love all those folds too!

Thank you so much! Actually, the texture isn't all from paper grain, I layered some nearly-dry paint over parts of the cloak to make it look rough and sandy.

Oh, it was well worth then because it is one of the things I like about this painting!

I like the hourglass the best . Do you think you're going to make an acompanying piece for this one too?

Thank you! Mmm, I probably wouldn't do a companion piece for this one. Father Time kind of stands alone, except when he's associated with Baby New Year. But I do think I'll be painting some gods in this monochromatic style, I think it would work really well for Poseidon and Hades in particular.

Oh me too! The only problem though is that the movies pretty much capture the exact image I had of LOTR, so I wouldn't know how to go about it without feeling like I was just copying the movies.

Well, that just shows how good the movies are
It would be fanart anyway, as you can't "not copy" JRR Tolkien's characters. Who are your favourites, anyway? I like Eowyn, Aragorn, Merry and Pippin... heck, I love 'em all! I'd love to see what you come up with

Sam!!!! I love Sam, I think he's the real hero of the story. All hobbits basically rule. I love Eowyn too, you can't not love Eowyn! Oh I know it would be fanart, I just wouldn't want to end up copying the movie, and I don't see how I could avoid it...

YEAH FOR SAM! I wanted to strangle Gollum and yell at Frodo when they left Sam behind in Return of The King...
And Eowyn is my absolute favourite character, she's so cool when she kills the Nazgul and cares for the hobbits like Merry...

weeee...looks great. I somehow get to think of the Norse Gods when I see this picture. The colors and the mood make me think a bit of Odin, though the resemblance is small...I like it
