Description
Today I went to the 2010 Royal Brisbane Exhibition and aside from two self propelled suburban electric sets doing the run to the 'Ekka', when I arrived at Central station to catch a train out onto the 'Exhibition loop' they train I was hoping to see arrived and conveyed me to the Ekka, DD17 tank locomotive No.1051 and a set of stainless steel suburban coaches. Here she can be seen as it moves to the pickup platform, taken from the top of one of the grandstands and while everyone else was watching the horse jumping, I was more interested in a horse of the Iron variety.

Why doesn't America make more use of her steam power? Makes me sad.

that loco was built in 1952 and was the last of its class and also the last steam locomotive built at the Ipswich workshops. They were used for suburban work and yes, that is actually the livery they wore in that service, very eye catching wouldn't you say?

I have a number of pics of this loco and its only other operational sister, 1049, in my gallery.
