Description
Our capital city (Valletta) is full of potential for street photography and if you chose the right time of the day to shoot, you can get some really good photos. Street photography is definitely something I want to try more of in the future.----

This is amazing! The light is so soft but gives a really nice contrast between the colors of the different shops. And the street perfectly fills the composition

I agree, Valletta is does offer good opportunities for street photography ...... but there are two points which you have to keep in mind:
1. When photographing people you need their permission if you are going to publish the photo (and that includes internet) due to the Data Protection Act.
2. All the cables and things which are hanging in the streets.

The cables do pose a challenge, but they can also be used creatively.
Regarding data protection act, as long as the people you are shooting are in public space, you're clear of the law. However, I'm not sure if this also applies to commissioned work. If the photograph includes a huge number of people, say at a mass meeting, I don't think anyone would find an objection for a photo which includes him to be published, but if a person is the sole subject of the photo, then a model release would make a lot of sense.
It's a touchy subject, but as long as you don't intrude a person's privacy and space, you're all fine.

I am not too certain that you can take photos of people out in the street and publish them without written consent as you are intruding on their privacy to a certain extent.
(there was a time when a person was fired from her job because a photographer published her photo in a newspaper when she was supposed to be home on sick leave. [this really happened, but not in Malta])
